Weight Watchers is really good because you can eat anything, just within your limit for the day. So you can choose to eat high-calorie stuff if you want but you have to keep it in check. You will find yourself choosing better foods because you can have more. The meetings are good too, not annoying or cheesy at all (In my experience).

Think life-style change. Not diet. In order for weight loss to work, it has to involve a 100 change in how you think about food, exercise and yourself.

Food is nourishment and must be eaten in moderation and with variety. It may be as simple as making one change a day in how you eat. Have one less soda every day and substitute water. Avoid a sweet or fatty snack and have a piece of fruit instead. Have one less drink in the evening. Do that for a couple of weeks, then make another change. and continue, until you have a diet full of produce (the closer to raw, the better), lean meat, and whole grains.

Exercise is critical. And this doesn't mean spending a hour at the gym every day. Literally, walking 20 minutes a day, or 40 minutes every other day, can make a difference. And it doesn't have to be all at one time.

Lifestyle refers more to how one thinks about oneself than anything else. Too many of us eat out of habit, or because we are lonely, unhappy, or bored. Take a good look at your eating patterns, and make little changes. When you get up to get a snack, grab a glass of water instead. If you are unhappy, take a walk instead o eating (double benefit there).

Avoid fad diets. They just don't work.

The best diet was just deciding to eat healthier foods and exercise regularly. Substituting fruit for sweets, 1% milk for whole, water for soda, and Triscuts or celery for potato chips worked great. Walking to anyplace within distance instead of driving, taking stairs instead of elevators or escalators, and doing aerobic exercise tapes/DVDs 3-4 times a week is plenty.

It may not happen as fast as using a 'diet' but the idea it to make life changes instead of doing something temporary. That's how a person avoids every regaining.

To lose weight, a person has to reduce the calorie intake by some amount by modifying their diet. A diet without sufficient nutrients will only increase the appetite of the person trying to lose weight. Since most people combine a diet with an exercise plan, additional nutrients are required for the growth of muscles required to increase the metabolic rate required for long term weight loss. a diet of healthy moderation. Don't obsess over your diet. Eat fruits and vegetables every day. Read ingredients on all the labels so you know what you are eating and cut out Refined Sugar and White Flour.
Those two items are the poison of our society.
If you cut them out the rest of your diet will be much easier to follow.

Weight Watchers with a good exercise routine got me from a 175 down to 160. If you follow the points guide it works out pretty well. Plus they have tons of sites dedicated to telling you how many points are what from different restaurants.
