I have this sealed box of Crisco vegetable oil shortening that I bought about last November and wondering if it's still good or if I should throw it out...

Should be fine.

You'll know when it's gone. I just grabbed a canister last night thinking it would be ok but when I opened it up it was slightly yellowed, a little dry looking (cracks in it), and there was a slight odor.

There should be an expiration date on the package.

You say box... is it the sticks? If they're sealed as in never been opened you should be fine. But one you open it, I think it's recommended to use within 6 months.

there's usually an "expiry date" stamped at the bottom of the can. in its absence, you can check the quality of the shortening. i use mine for as long as it's still white in color (or a nice yellow color for butter flavored). i also check for rancidity and smell. you can easily detect off- color, and funny smell in shortening. but as in any kind of food, when in doubt, throw it away.

I would suggest that you open it now.If it smells OK up close (up almost to your nose) then it should be good. Also check color and texture.
If you can smell it from a short distance, throw it out.
