My cat is 3 months old and very tall and lean. He is a big eater and seems healthy. I thought he was a normal size but when my mother recently came to visit she said he seems really skinny. I can feel his ribs a bit and his hip bones are easily felt. Is this just cause he's young or should I worry? I volunteer at the humane society and the cats there all seem fat to me. is this how he should be?

For a fit cat, you must be able to feel (but not see!) ribs and hip bones (under a thin layer of fat, not just skin); you should be able to see a waistline both looking down at his back and level at his side.

Anything more fat goes towards slightly obese. Which is bad for the cat.

If he eats well and is energetic, you have no reason to fear that he's skinny; he's probably very active at that age and doesn't let fat stick to him; you also seem to be feeding him healthily.

But I will join with the - take care he is de-wormed and has had a good vet checkup... has he had his shots already? He ought to, I think. And yes, do think of having him fixed, if he isn't already - crowd.

You need to check for worms this can cause a cat to not get fat the worms eat the animals nutrients and the cat will eat all the time but never get any larger due to the worms if you with the Humane society then you should be able to get vet assistants and your humane society head person should beable to help you also and give you de-wormer. has the cat been tested for luk. and feline aids??? If a cat or kitten indigests a flea can cause worms and sometimes they come up neg. on fecal testing Take it to the vet

You know how some people can eat and eat and never get fat? Well it's the same thing with some cats. Some cats, esp Siamese or part-Siamese, are just skinny by nature. When you have him neutered, which should be within a month or so, mention your concerns to the vet.

Yes, I would say you should be concerned about your cat. When was the last time you took the cat to the vet. I would schedule an appointment right away. Your cat might need some type of vitamin supplement. If you care about your pet, always make sure your cat get regular visits with the vet.

Make sure he has been dewormed recently, intestinal parasites cause pets to eat alot and seem skinny, but also know that cats go through a period when their growing where they are tall and lanky looking. Make sure he has been to the vet to have a kitten check up and they will tell you if your kitty is overly skinny.

I have a cat too. It is normal to feel a cats bones. It just means he is growing. When a cat is three months old it is unusual to have them die. Boy cats are more calm than girl cats. Is your cat a boy or girl?

Generally, cat's bones are easy to feel, since their skin is not so thick and hard. So I guess your cat's ok. But do make sure he's been dewormed. Seeing his photo would've helped more though

I look on the Purina bags. They have little silhouettes to show you. My kitty was too skinny and I feed her some canned tuna to keep her weight up.
