To many people it doesn't matter wether you are here legal or ilegal, they put you in the same bucket, are you barely knowing this? Especially in the south, or Texas. they don't care. I hear so many Hispanics and Mexicans feeling themselves better than their fellow latinamericans because they are either citizens or legal residents, when in fact for those many racists this doesn't matter: they'll measure you with the same stick. So, we're all in the same bus baby.

I am sure there are many people who are racists engaging in the illegal immigration debate. However, the problem is an old one. It has become popular in this country to call those who disagree with your position racists. In this way you can dismiss them, rather than examine legitimate complaints regarding the issue. The vast majority of people concerned with illegal immigration have 2 main complaints. The first is that our borders are not secure, and in this day and age it makes people understandably nervous. The second is that we not only have people willfully violating our laws, but also protesting in our streets for the right to do it. This makes people understandably angry. It is directed more at the Mexican population because they make up the vast majority of illegal aliens entering the country. This has been an issue in border states for as long as I can remember, but because of the protests and rallies, the mainstream news coverage has now made it a country wide issue. The simple fact is that we do need to have this debate in our society. There are solutions to the problem, they are not easy, but in the end we will have to come to some concensus on the issue for the good of all concerned. If people are going to call other racists for having an opinion then sobeit. Does not make that contention true, and it will not slow the momentum that has been put in motion. The majority of people in the United States are demanding change. When enough people unite in a cause in this country they usually get what they want, be it good or bad.

It's possible that some people are using the immigration topic to exercise their racism but I think "most" are just stating the facts that we, the American taxpayer have to pay for them...the first issue is that they come into the country illegally and then secondly they get free healthcare, housing, schooling for their children, foodstamps etc. and although they want a better life ( like we all do) I don't feel that the millions who are here illegally
should be entitled to receive benefits at our expense.

Possibly...given that most illegal immigrants are Mexican I can see why people generalize. I do not want to quote a statistic but I think I remember it being around 80 percent.

As far as legal immigrants...usually PR'icans...and they cant even be considered immigrants anymore because PR'ico is now part of the US. Either way...they come here and begin collecting on Social Security and welfare right off the bat. Why don't they stay in PR'ico and collect it? Its not racism...most ppl's views stem from an economic standpoint.

Yes I can agree with your assessment. Some people hate everyone that's not like they are,and there are people that find the anti illegal debate an opportunity to advocate their personal racist agenda. But that's not the majority of anti illegals.They/I don't want millions of people of any race or nationality to invade this country.I don't want them coming here illegally and demanding rights that are /should be only for legal Americans. They disrespect our laws ,our flag and our way of life.It doesn't matter to me if theses people were all white or black or whatever color or nationality. They are wrong and must not be allowed to continue this rampage of destruction.
No amnesty ,no illegals, report and deport.

There will always be hate mongers in this world, no matter what. The topic of immigration is too hot for them to pass it by so they join up and fly their flags, only for the purpose of hurting a race of people.

On the other hand... (And forgive me if I use quotes without offering the original person who said them, but I am horrible with names)

I am also anti-immigrant. As stupid as it is, especially since my family were immigrants as all americans are today other than Native Americans, I am tired of how a group of people come into this country and try and change things, and in many cases have succeeded.

The national language in the US is english. Why then must all food products, well, every product, have spanish on it as well?
Why must I press 1 for english?

It is things like this that upset me, and most of them seem to stem from mexicans entering the country, legally or illegally. If you go anywhere else in the world, you will see that in order to survive there, you must learn their language and use it, they will not cater to other countries and put things in both their language as well as yours. It doesn't work that way. But here in the US, mexicans seem to think they deserve these things. Kind of like during those protests, they flew the mexican flag, sang the american anthem in spanish, and found other ways to annoy and disrespect america, and then they're upset because people do not want them here.

Sorry, but yes, your question is valid and does bring up a good point, but in the end, I think there are many justifications as to why people feel the way they do and act the way they do towards mexicans.

You hit the nail on the head Señorita. Anti illegal is a front for anti latino racism. People hide behind the "illegal" thing so they can spout all their racist garbage and now that immigrant bashing is popular and socially acceptable, you get to see a lot of people's true colors.

p.s. you can get the ñ with alt164 Ñ alt165

There are racists in every race, nationality, country. There are rude people everywhere. There are just as many if not more racists in the pro group as the anti group. There are also trolls in this immigration category who like to make racist remarks to yank your chain. Ignore them if possible. Just stick to the issue and only respond to the intelligent answers/questions. I also try to ignore those who post harrassing 'questions' directed at one participant, filthy wording and those annoying copy and paste repeat answers that go completely down the page. I just give it thumbs down to 'hide' it and ignore it. The YAT doesn't do anything about them, so, to report 'abuse' is a total waste of time. We are not all 'racists'. Be sure what you are reading is not a want of law enforcement. You have to look at it this way: There are illegal immigrants from all over the world in the USA. We want them ALL to either become legal or go back to their country of origin and return the legal way. The majority of illegal immigrants in the USA 'are', in fact, Hispanic. We focus on them, NOT 'because' they are Hispanic, but because THEY are the 'majority' of illegal immigrants, AND 'they' are the ones who demand rights they DON'T have. THEY are the ones who protested the USA wanting OUR government to change OUR laws to suit THEM. THEY are the ones who, in great number, use our welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing, educational system, free medical assistance, work for slave wages which lowers OUR wages and standard of living, call US racist because WE want OUR laws enforced... and you think THEY are not racist?

I would say expecting the USA to succumb to changing it's laws to suit one group (Hispanics) is just a tad Racist. I would say for one group of people (Hispanics) to think they should be allowed to criminally cross our borders and get amnesty, when other illegal immigrants don't get that privilege, is racist. For Hispanics to say 'we do jobs lazy, white, Americans won't do",.. is racist. Hispanic people need to grow up and stop expecting Americans to be their parental figure. We are not required to feed, house, medicate and educate you or your children. It is not OUR responsiblity to take all the 'poor' of the world. WE are not resposible for Mexicos, Central Americas or South Americas welfare. Those countries can take care of their own people. Those people need to get a REAL life in their own countries. It is not for the AMERICANS of the USA to shoulder all THEIR problems.

Much like you ,I too am in the same "boat".., (pun intended).
I was speaking with a gentleman, yesterday, that does "studies" on the hill , for both sides of the political arena.

As I spoke with him, he offered some advise to me.Basically how to preface a statement to make my point and yet disarm the opposing side.

After working 30 or so years in the construction industry, I have VERY strong feelings on ANYTHING that affects the wages and pricing in this industry.

His point, it is OK to be passionate about a subject, but to make a statement that turns off someone's listening mode , does no one any good.., on either side.

It is not always what we say, but how we say it !

If what you say is true, then they have brought it upon themselves. I support enforcing current AMERICAN IMMIGRATION LAWS. A SECURE U.S./ mEXICAN BORDER.
Employment of LEGAL immigrants or visitors. Repeal of the fictional ANCHOR BABY clause.
The marches and demonstrations by the latino, hispanics, mexicans, whatever they choose to be called were a wake up call to the American public, They P'ed in the bed, now they are whining about the bed being wet. TOO BAD! GET LEGAL, or GET GONE! Nobody hears all the whining going on from any Polish,Finnish, immigrants do they?
