she doesn't need any specific diet. She just needs to eat much less and to exercise much more.
There is NO diet which gives you magic weight loss without any concious effort of the participant.
You first have to convince her that she herself wants to loose weight, as without her cooperation you won't get anywhere. You also have to talk to your grandmother to get her cooperation, for if your grandmother will encourage to eat her too much it will make everything more difficult. I think you need more psychological support for her than a diet plan. I don't know if there is a equivalent of weight watchers for children? I would try to look if there are local programs for overweight children. Also if she happens to spend a lot of time in front of a television (where it is dead easy to eat), cut that time drastically. Get her to have hobbies which are of that kind that while she is doing what she likes it isn't possible to eat. At least for me, I eat much more when I am bored than if I am busy.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.
On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.
The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!
Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.
Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.
Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

1. Start moving. One of the most effective weight loss strategies around is exercise. 2. eat lots of veggies and fruits, have some protein, but not a ton, and stay away from stuff with sugar. 3. Eat small, healthy meals and snacks several times a day. 4. Team up. Get together with a friend who has much the same goals as you. 5. Think health. Don't try to lose weight. Instead, try to get healthy. 6. Get rest. When your body is tired. 7. Drink water. 8. Don't quit. look at http://www.theaones.com/answers/weight-loss/what-is-the-best-diet-that-works.htm for a complete Healthy Weight Loss Program

What people don't realize is that a diet plan is merely what foods you eat. Everyone has a diet plan (diet meaning the food we eat). What would work best for her at this point wouldn't be eating foods that are "diet foods", but merely switching what she already eats to healthier alternatives. I agree when someone suggested you switch cola with water or milk. Make sure she eats only when she's hungry and that it be high in nutritional value (fruits are both sweet and healthy). One last piece of advice, help her take advantage of the food pyramid.

To lose weight, a person has to reduce the calorie intake by some amount by modifying their diet. A diet without sufficient nutrients will only increase the appetite of the person trying to lose weight. Since most people combine a diet with an exercise plan, additional nutrients are required for the growth of muscles required to increase the metabolic rate required for long term weight loss. Rather than try to put her on a diet (which is unhealthy for any child), give her other more healthy choices of foods to eat. You can eat some junk food that is actually healthier for you and lower in calories rather than regular junk. Also, encourage her to go for walks with you. When she reaches for a cola, encourage her to drink water or milk. Lots you can do without a diet. And the more you ask her to walk with you, the more she'll lose.

Start snacking on stuff infront of her like, baby carrots with lite ranch salad dressing dip if you like ranch. Or salads with chicken chuncks, stuff like that. Sometimes younger sisters do what their older sister does. At 12yrs old a 'diet' may not be good for her. Eating better and doing a athletic activity is the key at her age. Tell her you want to look for the boys in school. That might wake her up! lol

Don't put her on a crash diet. Just give her healthier options like leafy vegetables, fruit, lean meat (chicken breast), whole wheat bread instead of white bread, lots of water. She doesn't have to starve herself, but just take everything in moderation. Stay away from junk food (chips, sweets, all that stuff with alot of preservatives). It'll also help if you encourage her to take up a sport, or some kind of activity that'll get her moving around.

"Diets" are useless, except in the very short term. What your sis needs is a lifestyle change. This means eating better foods, less junk, and getting daily exercise (more than just walking).
All the other methods you hear about are just scams to get you to buy diet food, diet books, etc. Maybe you can help her by doing the same thing, and working with her.
Good Luck.

I like the Glecimix Index Diet. It helps you control and keep your body function in check while you are losing weight. Some diets will deplete your body of some nutitrion. There are many diets I would look at this site and then determine what diet your ister may need, www.ediets.com.
