Not only the biggest seller it is also the biggest giveaway. There are organizations that have the Bible printed with their logo on it and put it in motels, etc. There have been bibles sent to deprived countries and peoples for a long time. I would say that there is profit in it somewhere, but probably not to the extent that it might appear. It is expensive for leather bindery and Gold leaf pages. When you throw in the ink and the distribution, it starts to add up. I am sure that you can go to just about any true Bible believing body of believers and they will give you a free Bible if you can not afford to pay for one. If it is just the price that is bothering you, then shop around and you will find them much cheaper.

The publisher. Zondervan gets some $$ from the NIV version and that's the only one I can think of off of the top of my head but any publisher you can think of makes the money and then passes a portion of it down to it's workers. Of course the individual merchants take a cut as well.
Some Bibles are really expensive especially if you get an "heirloom" edition or something like that with lots of room for recording family births, deaths, marriages, and baptisms. But if you just want a copy of the Bible, plain and simple, you can find cheap copies at most book stores ($10 or less), on Amazon.com, or go to any local church organization and they'll probably give you one upon request - I know our church gives out lots of free copies. :)

Ever look at the cost of college text books? I think the price of a Bible is reasonably inexpensive.

Private enterprise. Bible bookstore owners, Bible salesmen. Few Bibles are given free. Some are, not many.

The publisher, the book store, charities, the author (those that write "new improved" versions, the paper and ink manufacturers....... I agree there is just something wrong about selling Bibles - give them away!!!!

I think some publishers send profits to charities, some to upkeep churches and so such.
