Unfortunately most dogs dont even live to there rightful age due to car hits, dog fights, snake bites, ticks, ring-heart worm, or other parasites, diseases or unforeseen circumstances.

its good that its living long with you!! i have a chihuahua who is 8 too!! and by the way is your maltese healthy? anyway maltese terriers can live for 12-15 years or in cases where it is truly healthy and happy up until to 20 years..

Smaller dogs tend to live longer than larger dogs, if they are taken care of. Your Maltese will likely live another 8 years, possibly even hitting the age of 20.

As long as they are well looked after a terrier can live to be anything up to 26 - 28 years.......My family had a fox terrier that lived to be 24.......
