My suggestion would be to start with something traditional, like Sticky toffee rat onna stick...free range rats and sticks are freely available in all localities. For the main course, a little light seafood maybe..Braised Deep-sea blowfish is always a winner, well, mostly, you did say you were an excellent cook didn't you? For dessert something that's renowned for being popular with the laydeees...spicy spotted dick with a side of strawberry wobbler.
A gentleman once cooked this for me, and I'm alright

Best of luck, hope she's worth it. :o)

For A First Date I Would Go Out Just So You Can Find Out About Each Other,
Then When You Do Cook A Meal For Him You Could Cook Together.

Stay away from anything sloppy or drippy that could create a spill.

For example, Spaghetti is a great dish, but the Tomato Sauce could making either person or the female self-conscious as to whether they have anything on their mouth causing them to constantly wipe. You want your dinner date to be as comfortable as possible and not have reason to be self-conscious about anything.

You most likely want something that allows for healthy conversation. Meat is okay, but it requires a knife and concentration. Plus the clanking of dinner utensils can be distractive.

Something like Stir Fry or where the dish is already diced or cut where it can be spooned up easily would be good. It allows less concentration on the meal itself and more focus on the two people being able to communicate.

Avoid anything too exotic unless you know for sure what your dinner date's food preferences are. You can always ask the person or if you know the person's friends ask what your dinner date's favorite dishes are.

Here's a recipe for Jerusalem Chicken which is my standard 1st date dinner, you don't have to worry about mess, or do they like fish or do they eat red meat! Basically it's chicken, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, white wine etc serve over noodles or rice, make a great salad some bread and perhaps a side of asperagus (but you really don't need it) and when you're out shopping stop by your local Italian restaurant and pick up two Tiramissue's, you'll be making chicken omlettes the next morning!

Steak Sandwich

1 large strip, round, or shell sirloin steak, weighing between 12 ounces and 1 pound

1/2 t. coarsely ground black pepper

Salt to taste

2-3 T. oil

2 T. chopped onion

4 oz. crimini mushrooms, cleaned and chopped

1/2 t. thyme

1 loaf French or Italian bread, or 1 Vienna loaf

3-4 T. prepared mustard

Trim any excess fat from the steak. Sprinkle both sides with pepper and salt, then brush with a tablespoon of the oil. Heat a cast-iron or nonstick pan and sear the steak about 2 minutes on each side. Remove from the pan. Cook the onion for 2 minutes in the remaining oil, then add the chopped mushrooms, sprinkling them with the thyme and a little salt. Cook, stirring, until they have softened. If the mixture dries out, add a tablespoon or so of water.

Cut a large piece of bread about 1 inch longer than the steak. (If you're using a Vienna loaf, you may not need to cut it at all.) Slice it lengthwise through the middle, leaving an uncut edge as a hinge. Spread both cut sides of the bread liberally with mustard. Now place the steak on the bottom half and scatter the mushroom mixture on top. Fold the top half of the bread down. Wrap the sandwich in two layers of plastic wrap. Take a long piece of string and tie the sandwich up tightly as if it were a parcel, knotting the string in several places. Put the sandwich on a plate and place another plate on top of it. Now weight it down with either cans of food or a bowl filled with water. Leave it for 8 hours or overnight in the refrigerator or other cold place. When you rescue it from the weights, it will be firm and flat. For serving, unwrap it and slice it on the diagonal so you have several strips, each about 3/4 to 1 inch wide. Arrange these on a platter with a bowl of relish or chutney to accompany them

What about Kleftico?

Easy to make, cooks slow at a low teperature for a few hours and tastes fanatstic.

It's something diffrent and interesting, they will think your a culinary master because the Lamb is just so soft and tender and, you have no mad rush when getting ready because it cooks slowly.
It gives you time to prepare everything else, get dressed, etc and you don't have to watch it, last minute it's out of the oven and straight on a plate, fantastic.

Keep it simple and not too messy!

Like Roast Chicken, simple buy a chicken, stuff its bum with halved lemons, cover the outside with honey, cover with tin foil and roast for 20 mins per pound, so if its a 5lb chicken then it will be 1 hour! Check it about 10-15 minutes from the end and open up the tin foil so the skin goes nice and crispy brown!

Serve with boiled potatoes or chips ( micro chips if its easier for you) and some frozen veg (if you like it)

Gravy is also very easy, hot water and Bisto

More or less you shove the chicken in the oven and put your feet up for an hour! The side dishes take minutes to prepare!

Enjoy!

Try and find out what type of food they like first of all. Dont cook anything that is awkward to eat, maybe a tapas type meal would be good, as lots of variety and lasts for a while, rather than soup and some boring meat dish.

I get the same complement - for my now partner our first date i cooked fillet steak, with baby veg, mushrooms cooked with red onions and a spring onion and garlic mash.

I don't recommend spaghetti, gets rather messy.

I have a great desert to, make some shortbread biscuits, whisk together some double cream, adding small glass champagne and a small amount of caster sugar, buy some strawberry's and make a 3 lay ed cake out of it all, you can also blend some strawberry's, champagne and sugar together to make a puree for decoration. Hmmm yummy in your Tummy

If you want the shortbread recipe give me a shout.

Good luck
