It would depend on where you live. If you live in a well lit city, you aren't likely to see anything in the sky beyond the moon or sun.

Go to the rural areas about 40 - 50 miles from a big city on a
cloudless, moonless night and you'll see all you want to see.
And they'll appear to be bigger than in the city.

Fog. Pollution. Clouds. Too much light in the area. Too many trees in the way. All of these come to mind.

Too many lights in the city...even at night...population grow has caused this truly sad reason....the stars haven't gone away, I promise....
