There's a story that says that a Muslim merchant, during one of Gandhi's speeches, brought the spiritual dimension to Gandhi's passive resistance, by proclaiming that all the people should take a vow in the name of God, that they would never yeild and would continue their protest agains an ordinance the British had passed.

Buddhism teaches non-violent resistance and it influenced Gandhi.
