I don't know when the "sinners prayer" was "formalized" as a way for one to become saved. It may have been around this time.

Nevetheless, I don't think you really care. But for the sake of someone who could use the knowlege, I write:

But, I do know for fact, that no one can independently read the Gospels, Acts, and the Epistles, and legitimately come up with an example of anyone being saved by "saying a sinners prayer", or any direction for christians to be saved like this. Futhermore Jesus never told anyone to "say a sinners prayer".

What you WILL find, is people being admonished to, "repent, confess, and be baptized, once they hear and believe the gospel. After hearing and believing the death, burial, and ressurection of Jesus (the gospel). One must submit to obedience to the gospel. If one is taught ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES, one will ask, just like those first century christians did in when they heard Peter preach the same gospel in Acts 2:37;
"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, MEN, AND BRETHREN, WHAT SHALL WE DO?"

Peter did not tell them to, "Say a sinners prayer". [Why not Peter?] Because, THAT'S NOT THE WAY.

Peter told them in the next verse, Acts 2:38 "REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ [Why Peter?] for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

They heard, they believed, no doubt they confessed jesus was the Son of God, they were told to repnt and be baptized.
Someone may like the simplicity of "the sinners prayer". But, you can be sure, Peter's way (of course God's way), will get you into Christ.

As for me, I'm not taking any chances with my soul, or anyone elses.

Galatians 1:8-9
But even if we, or an angel from Heaven, preach any other Gospel to you than the one we have preached to you, let him be acursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be acursed.

In the strongest terms used anywhere in His word, God tell us His assessment and penalty for those who would take it upon themselves to pervert His holy Word. "..may they be acursed.”

"The sinner's prayer".....from God or from men. Someone may say, "YOU CAN'T JUDGE ANYONE!" When it comes to matters of faith, for the christian, YOU HAD BETTER JUDGE.

Peace

I don't know why you are so down on Christianity. We have all
had bad experiences with people who CLAIMED to be
Christian and were trouble-makers. But I have to agree with
you here. I think it's ugly the way many try to save people in
order to make points for themselves. They don't realize that
by pressuring people into it, they actually keep the person from
experiencing the Holy Spirit.
I got saved three times, and the last time I told myself
I wouldn't keep letting everyone make a joke out of it. And I
felt the Holy Spirit.
Graham is a good man I'm sure. But he also pushed Moody's
idea of being Born Again. And we get that shoved down our
throats now. But being Born Again according to Jesus's words,
is not the Born Again taught by the Church.
Christ said, " When you are born of flesh, you are flesh. And
when you are born of Spirit, you are spirit. Just like the wind,
which you hear but can't see, and it goes wherever it wants to go!"

So?
You are correct, but what's the big deal? The 'sinner's prayer' is indeed a tool used by evagelists to synopsize the key points on accepting Jesus Christ as your savior. There's really no set words that will save you, you must believe in your heart. If you believe in your heart, and you say the 'sinner's prayer' or ask Jesus into your heart in your own words, you shall be saved.

I have had people pray a sinners prayer. I don't believe that I have ever said quite the same thing twice. But the main point is believing, calling on the Name of Jesus and confessing it.

Look, many prayers were made during the past 5000 years, are you trying to establish a time-line for some liberal grant?

Are you stuck on the sinner's prayer today or something? How many times are you going to mention it today?

Why not say sinner's prayer was formulated based on theological truths?

Are you tryimg to convince us you are not a sinner? Ha, ha, Ha.

Pray this prayer:
Heavenly Father; I admit I am a sinner; I have
gone astray. I repent of sin now, and return to
you. Please have mercy on me, forgive me
my sins and wash me clean. I believe Jesus
died for me, so I can be set free. Restore peace
to me and give me the free gift eternal life;
I ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
