Virus can't create problem on Audio device.
If you can restore your operating system after virus, audio should be repaired as before. If no, then still have problem on OS.
Please solve OS problem or re-install.

Try reinstalling your Audio drivers as the current ones could have become corrupt.
a Friend of mine got a nasty Virus, he removed the virus, but it did a fair amount of damage to his drivers.
To do this in XP go to Start
> Control Panel
> System
> Hardware
> Device Manager
> Locate "Sound, video and Game controllers"
> Right click on any that has an mark by it (if any) else choose your Audio Drivers and choose update Driver
Windows will ask you to choose where you want to look, if you have the CD or Floppy that came with the Sound Card insert it, and choose have disk.

A virus "KHAN", sorry, "can" affect Multimedia devices (virus in a driver or a damaged config file), so can a corrupt registry, etc...
First try a system restore.
next, try a registry repair tool - once completed: remove and reinstall the Driver for the audio device.
Failing that, you will have to reinstall the OS then reinstall the Drivers...

If its a sound-card problem you need to search for the "divers" for your make and model and reinstall them.
If you have a disk for it some-ware all the better.
