Actually, one of the first things Adam prayed for was to ask God for forgiveness.

The same reason people pray in general. To communicate with GOD. We pray because we can. I thank GOD for my salvation daily. Why? Because I'm thankful. I just prayed for you. Why did I do that? Because I can.
