Why do people who don't know the answer to your question, answer your question just to say they don't know the answer?

It boggles me.

I don't know... :o Probably just to rack up points, but it is annoying isn't it?

And just a pointer... the expression in more common usage is: "It Boggles My Mind" rather than it boggles me...

Only part of the answer is "for two points". Part of the answer is how questions are asked. Someone may want to find the distance between New York and LA,and they ask "does anyone know the distance between.......". The only correct answers to this is "yes, but not me" or "yes, I do".

It boggles me that some ask questions they don't want answered and then complain that people have answered it.

Probably the main reason is the 2 points, however, sometimes, you truly may feel it is a good question the person has asked, and you want to let the person know, that you have reviewed it, but you can't help?

Just a guess.

People may answer your question with a bit of comedy, and say, "I don't know" LOL.

Have a great day.

Simply for the two points. They haven't discovered yet that the real points are in the best answer. They also don't know that they can go answer questions in specific categories where they may be more knowledgable.

Damn good question. I think to many people are just trying to collect points. Yahoo come up with a good idea for people to share knowledge. Now its being perverted by "points collectors". I think the points crap should be lost.

They get an extra 2 points each time they answer any question. Points mean prizes!

Why do people ask questions they know the answers to or think they do?

i don't make a habit of this, but i have done it on occasion when i find the topic very interesting but really don't have a clue. those questions i usually add to my watch list and check back later to see what other people have answered.

I don't know the answer.

Haha, just joking. Maybe its because they want points, or they want to annoy you, or probably just feel like being involved. Could be any reason, or they could just be idiots. Anyway take care.
