II used Canby publications to plan my entire Cambodia trip. It is a good source of very current information. bugbog.com has some interest info also as well as some good security tips.

Some Tips:

Have lots of small US bills, 1s & 5s. Don't take any ripped, stained or damaged bills. No one will accept them. All coins are useless. You don't want people to have to make change. They may not have it or may say they don't have it.

Also have several Cambodian bills for short motorcycle trips and for beggars. A couple of 1000s will cover a short motodup hop where a US $1 would be too much. A few 100s for beggars is okay.

Don't give anything to hawkers, beggers or urchins until you are ready to leave. Once you give anything, so many more will arrive that you must flee.

The moto dups will mob your bus as it arrives. There are guards to keep them just far enough away so you can get out. If I knew where I was staying I asked them to take me to a nearby restaurant so they couldn't get a commission for bringing me where I planned to go anyway. If you don't know where you are going they can be helpful but you may be charged a bit more. You have almost no choice but accept one their services.

If you get hit up for money by a cop, $5 is usually enough. Don't get crazy and start passing out $20s.

While you want to avoid being ripped-off, there is no reason to be excessively stingy when bargaining. Give the people a break. Pay decently for goods and services, don't haggle over an extra 1000. I gave more money to monks and beggars than I spent on hotels, which isn't necessarily that generous. While I would never give anything to beggers in the US, these people are genuinely desperate with no opportunities.

Have a nice trip.

The Canby publications are enough to get you around and in the know (don't bother with Lonely Planet it has too many errors, costs too much and just isn't worth what you pay for). They are free at most guest houses, hotels, restaurants, etc.

You can stay in the cheap places for a few US$'s or right up to 5 star luxury, the choice is yours.

You can travel by plane, car, bus, boat, pickup truck, motorbike, buffalo cart even if you like. Give them all a go and then you'll have a broad range of experiences.

My best advice is to take what other travellers tell you with a pinch of salt, as many people seem to tell too many pork pies (lies) for some reason or another. I think they are out to impress for some reason.

Enjoy the local hospitality and when you get invited to dine with a family do so, it'll be the beginning of your best experience ever.

i don't know when was reminho went to Cambodia, as last month when i went there it cost me over than US$ 100 to stay at 5 stars hotels, Le Meridien Siem Reap and Le Royal (The Raffles) Phnom penh. you can rent tuk tuk for US$ 10/day for going around . Almost all the price for everything is in US$ so have enough US$ cash with you as not a lot stores accept credit card (unless big stores) and some ATM machines didn't work for different bank even it's international bank.

Cambodia is great place to travel. Lots to see. I suggest you go from east to west or vis-versa. Definitely stop in Sihanoukville for some beachtime. This is south of Phnom Penh. Of course Angkor Wat. The accomodation is good, like any country nowadays you can travel budget or not. There a lot of people who go to Cambodia so the tourist infrastructure is building quickly so there are many choices and it is pretty easy to travel through. The roads are bad in some places but other than that it is easy to get everywhere!

go to the foreign correspondents club of cambodia on the river and you'll get all sorts of info when you get there. accomodation can be cheap, but i suggest you stay close to the main bar/restaurant road when in pnomh penh, or there used to be a hell of a place facing the town market which is pretty colourful. Siem reap is full of expensive hotels now but 20usd should still get you air-con and security. if you want a really wild night, even with an adventurous girlfriend, then go to the martini bar, out of town, but make sure you can get a ride back or go with a few others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cambodia is Awesome !!!!!!!!

Siem Riep is a very querky town and is very cheap.
Travelling around is easy - Tuk Tuk and buses and you will need to have US dollars with yourself.
Accomodation is cheap and standards are excellent you can easily book yourself in a 5 stars hotel for around $25 per nights but shop around.
The people are extremly helpfull and welcoming and the food is excellent.
To top it all don't miss Angkor Wat it is AMAZING
