You are correct. Saying a prayer does not save anyone and nowhere in the Bible is that idea stated. It's the condition of the heart that matters. That said, if a Bible-based "sinner's prayer" is said and meant from the heart, that's a good sign a person has been saved, according to the Bible.

Gracious me. Yet again another avenue of salvation slams shut. It is fortunate that I've direct contact with God, or I'd be screwed for sure!! I've found it odd that some one like me, of all people; should enjoy the attention of the One. What a strange world the One has made, and to be always pulling my chain, I mean there are all You folk that want this sort of attention; I just want to hang with my Lover and maybe go for a day trip ever once and a bit! I'm not even devote, I'm irreverent; yet there's God waiting for me around ever corner; always with the funny jokes and interesting situations. My of my, I guess I just amuse Our Lord; sort of like a mortal straight man to Celestial Top Biller!! Saved from what? You don't get this whole God thing, do You Kiddo? What You feel is real, what they tell You is just window dressing. Cake, with icing! Icing is sweet, but not nourishing. You need the cake! I think You may be on the path Sara, just starting out. Good luck, there is a God; of this there is no doubt. Know God threw Your heart little one, never by a book written by fallible man.

Yes, and to be honest, going to church won't get you there (to Heaven) either. Asking Jesus into your heart doesn't mean you have to say a "sinners prayer". That prayer is a waste of time...We are ALL sinners even after we pray each night...thats why we ask for forgiveness for our daily sins...no "sinners prayer" is gonna do any good if you say it and think you are saved for the rest of your life. People are still human and sin every day and need to ask for forgiveness Every day, not just once...You have to have God in your life and heart, know that Jesus died for you and be good to each other...having a good relationship with God day to day by talking to him and sharing with others about him and Jesus is what saves you and gets you there to Heaven.....Eternal Life!

There is no "sinner's prayer". The prayer for someone who repents is meant to come straight from the heart. I have heard of people who were saved, and all they could manage to say through their grief of the realization of how terrible sin is, was, "Lord Jesus, forgive me".

It's not the words that save... it's the repentance and asking forgiveness of sin, the acknowledgement of Jesus being your Lord and Savior, and being born-again, that saves.

there are a number of Prayers which are not contained in The Holy Bible. those who Pray every day may not say the same Prayer as situations change each day. I, personally, when I say The Lord's Prayer change a few words to make it more suitable and comfortable for me. no one else. why should any of us pray exactly the same Prayer the same way as mortals are not robots but have choices thanks to free will.

do you mean by sinners prayer the prayer you say to turn away from your sins and ask jesus to come in and be lord of your life? of couse its not a prayer thats written in the bible.... so many denominations have gotten the whole prayer thing wrong and think that prayers are meant to be chants that we repeat over and over again and that have been written by other people... god wants to have a one on one personal relationship with us and he has made us all different with different minds and he wants us to have out own dialogue with him... so if u would like jesus to be in your life just talk to him and ask him in your own way and say whats in your heart....

No, I did not know that.

And I don't know what the "sinners prayer" is either.

And it does not really bother me, as an atheist, if I remain unsaved, then so be it.

On edit: I AM very curious though - what is this 'sinners prayer'?

Only the Holy spirit can lead you to the cross. No amount of convincincing or arguing or debates has ever brought anyone to Jesus.Only the Holy spirit can and has ever brought people to salvation.

Your time will come when the Holy spirit will lead you to the truth and probably then you will change your current perceptions.

But these Scriptures will:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

Right..it isn't in the bible. That doesn't mean a thing. and it is what is in your heart that will save you.

So, yes, I knew it wasn't there. Have you ever read the Bible?
