I used to smoke and when I would have a few drinks socially I would smoke more. - You're right though, the craving to smoke intensified when I would drink. I think it has to do with alcohol lowering your resistance - like a drunk man saying what a sober man wants to say.

I had quit smoking once for 3 years before the birth of my daughter and one night I went out with a few friends (after she was born - of course) had one drink - said eh what the heck I can have one cigarette - it's not like I'm addicted anymore. That one cig turned into 1/2 a pack and I picked up the habit again.

I then smoked for 5 years and only quit when I found out I was preggers again. (Didn't plan this one - SURPRISE!!!) Thankfully I was able to quit - and don't plan on going back - for my kid's sake. (I actually liked smoking - the smell, the taste - everything.)

Since I don't want to smoke again - I try to stay away from bars,

Quit smoking but still drink.
I used to work in a gas station that sold cigarettes though and knew quite a few people, all women actually, that only bought cigarettes when they went out drinking so I think there is something to that.

Oh yes I do.
I smoke cigarettes, and I am saying it loud. I know that is is neither big nor clever. I know it is injurious, no, fatal to my health. I realise that it makes me a social pariah, and that it makes me look common, and that people who have never met me will make all kinds of judgements about the kind of person I am; that many will think me vulgar, stupid, ignorant and inconsiderate. But there we are.

It makes my breath, hair and clothes smell, and I sometimes find myself casing a situation/venue for where I will have to go to indulge myself.

I realise that a time may come when I may become a burden on the NHS because of my smoking - as may drinkers, people who work with hazardous substances, people who drive motor vehicles, people who go in for extreme sports, obese people and people who fail to heed all health warnings about what 's good to eat and what will cause blood sugar levels to go crazy and/or harden their arteries.

I smoke cigarettes.

I also drink, though not that much and not particularly often, and when I do I thoroughly enjoy it.

BUT: I don't eat fast food in the street and leave polystyrene cartons wherever they fall. I don't lounge about in front of moronic television and I do take regualr, vigorous exercise.

Nobody's perfect, but I am not going to spend my life apologising for my lifestyle choices, which, as far as I am aware, at present, are not illegal.

No. I do not smoke cigarettes and never will, but I do have an occasional drink from time to time. I save thousands of dollars that I do not spend on cigarettes, leaving me free to squander it on something else.

Yep, I smoke. Define go hand in hand tho....I know plently of poeple that drink way more than I do that don't smoke, it's two completely different vices, but if you do in fact smoke, you do tend to smoke more while drinking.
But, last I checked no one had died because I smoked and then drove my car.

Yes and you're right, they do. I have tried giving up before and I've crumbled when it came to having a cold beer. It just felt wrong without a cigarette. So expensive and so wrong. I wish I could stop.
