Nothing can see in complete darkness, but dogs and cats both have better night vision than humans. Rods and cones in the eyes are what make us see both details and colors. The reason we don't see colors when it's very dark is because the cones shut down. But dogs have only rods--they don't see color. Since they have more rods, they see better than we do in the dark.

Don't forget that dogs are descended from wolves, a fantastic predator that hunts day or night. When their sight is added to all their other senses, they are a hunting machine

I think my pit does. He sleeps with me, but gets up 3-4 times in the night to "patrol", then comes back to bed. I was curious about this same thing so I set up noisy "obstacles" he avoided them all...

brainooze... you bad! lol

Dogs can see as well as humans in the dark, but couple that with a sense of smell and hearing hundreds of times more intricate than our own and they can 'see' much better than us.

yes, they can see in the dark to some degree, but, they use their sense of smell to navigate, more than their sense of sight.
