I just want to know what other people think. We destroyed it, lets help put it back together. Provided we can put New Orleans back together.

Update: My idea of "putting back together" is rebuilding the country, providing health and human services for the civilian population and those that worked with the US. Kind of like Reconstruction after the American Civil War, when the North helped the South rebuild.

We are putting Iraq back together...

As for New Orleans... quite frankly, I think the Federal Government should replace the levees.. as for putting the city "back together".. that should fall right on Nagins shoulders. It is his fault that city is where it is.

How in the world could you folks re-elect that jerk?

The US is already involved in the rebuilding of Iraq, because strangley enough the companys which manufactured the weapons which destroyed it have also been given multi-billion dollar contracts to rebuild it, how good the republicans are at job creation. What the US actually needs to do is get out of Iraq and Afghanistan and pull Israel into line and stop persecuting anyone who does not subscribe to the consumer dream - or nightmare - as it is becoming.

A little humility goes a long way, unfortunately we are at the mercy of the Washington old boy network intent on destruction for their own capital gain - Hail George Caeser!

I think we can help them some but we need to be concentrating on taking care of our homeland first. The victims of Katrina are still not back to normal, over a year later. We also need to be taking care of the the people who worked so hard after the 9/11 tragedy at the World Trade Towers. A staggering number of them are suffering from debilitating lung disorders and are having trouble getting medical attention.

We're doing both , it takes time .
In Iraq there is a complication , people who would rather blow it up , than build it up .
Face it , if all the FOREIGN NATIONALS ( Syrians , Iranis , Jordanians , Saudies , ECT ) went home , things would quiet down in a hurry .
Everybody wants a piece of the OIL pie and the way to get it , is to end up running the country .
In Louisiana , you have a state government that can't account for billions of bucks in relief $ .
TO MOE : Germany , Japan , S . Korea , France , Italy , need I go future .

Yes the USA and Britain should offer to rebuild it. It may quell some of the anti British/US feelings with the local people of Iraq. That MAy lead to peace, I don't know if it will, but there is no harm in trying.

well if we dont maybe give the idiots out there making bombs and blowing up things something to do. and New Orleans was Nature why wouldnt we get it back together. And number one answer is dont you say we spent enough money in Iraq to already build it and made it a superPower?

Yes, the way we're doing now. We took out Sadam, which was a great thing, but did put the country into chaos. I think we should stick it out to help them rebuild in a safer way for everyone.

Otherwise we're just begging for another terrorist superpower to gain control.

Not to the point that we have been doing. After all we need new schools, roads, hospitals and social services here. How about health insurance for all?
If we quit paying for those things in Iraq then maybe they would stop fighting amongst themselves and get their oil production up and running and earn the money to repair their country themselves.

Of course, however the really question in my mind is what your view of put back together is. Putting "democracy" (even though we don't really mean that because we don't actually live in a democratic nation we live in a Democratic Republic) in place would be a lot harder of a task, it seems, than rebuilding infrastructure such as roads, buildings, powerlines, etc. Due to the culture of the area, the hope that "democracy" will be put in place seems bleak to me.

NO. Our government needs to start worrying about it's own people first. There are two many children out there that needs food, clothes and a home of their own. So I say keep the money where it belongs and take care of our people first instead of trying to be a bank to all other countries.
