And if so, can anybody explain why God should announce his presence by writing His name (in Arabic) on certain things instead of, say, ending famine or curing AIDS?

Why would God announce his existence in such a, well, meaningless fashion?

Now in nature you have literally an infinite number of patterns. The patterns in the clouds, those made by sand, patterns of pebbles on a beach, the pattern made by fallen leaves... the possibilities are endless. The patterns would change even if looked at from a different angles.
So viewed from a mathematical perspective, the possibility that Allah's (or any other name - which are basically patterns) is found in nature is much greater than it NOT being found.
I remember in college we had a question on probability - If a monkey types at random on a computer keyboard what is the probability that he will type out the entire alphabet in sequence. If I remember correctly, the probability that he would do so is one in a couple of billion tries.
Further, the monkey would type "God" or "Allah" in a much lesser number of tries. This, to me at least, would not indicate anything ie. the existence or non existence of God or Allah.

These sort of things keep coming up again and again. A decade ago, in Somalia there was report about the cloud formation of Jesus which gave rise to speculation about the second coming. Personally, I am impressed by such instances. I am religious but my religious faith does not hinge on such professed miracles. There are many miracles all around us- the air, water, the rivers, the ocean, the mountains and the flora and fauna all that God has created for us and for our company. Their unobtrusive presence is often taken for granted.

All said and done, all that we expect from religion is a guidance for life and for God realisation. It ought to lead us to a way of life which will put us in the right track to god realisation. Many realised souls who were capable of performking miracles cared little for such miracles. Miracles should not destract us from the righteous path to God.

1. yes, because ALLAH is our GOD so he is the creator of all the world with all its small details
so when the name "ALLAH" or "الله" found written on anything it is a that precious proof of the mighty of "ALLAH" because just give it a think, its a very rare situation that an animal write this name or the wind or trees or anything because we "humans" and we only have the ability to think in that logical way instead of all other things animals or anything else, so nothing at this planet except of us "humans" would manage to write that name at anything
so when u find that name written on anything u should remember the unlimited mighty and strength of ALLAH

2.about AIDS i'll tell u why
because the cure or u can say "the soloution" of AIDS is not a medical soloution its in our habits and i'll explain
in our holy book QURAN ALLAH says that humans shouldn't have sex untill get married because its safer, less dangerous, and it build the relationship of marrige and strengthen it, the people who have sex before marrige just to fulfill their desires ALLAH warned them that there will be some very dangerous consequences so stick to the orders of islam because its safer for u , many western people think that this is a very odd and weird way of thinking but when than men and women have AIDS they want the cure.....whats the cure?........its to have sex after marrige
understood

3.about ending famine
in islam we have something called "al-zakat"
i'll give u a simple definition: every rich man
and "rich" men and women only should cut a 2.25% from their welth and give it to the poor people so their will be no poverty
no famine no stealing
u see..........................
ALLAH gave the soloution to the people so they can act
if any country on this planet tried to enable "al-zakat"
their will be no poverty
no famine no stealing....no........no.............
no for many vad things
if u want more information email me
peace

Well, of course, it is unlikely to be a miracle to 'prove His existence'. Believers need no proof - or do they? Those whose confidence is shaky will generally look for signs that they are following the right course - that is a well-known psychological phenomenon - and it applies as much to religion as any other project we are engaged in. Look, for example, at how popular the daily horoscope in the paper is with many people, even those who don't claim to take it seriously!

Those who look for signs will surely find them!

not really. in the discussion of hidden meanings in The Holy Bible Code there were those who debunked this theory by using the same code and finding messages in other books. what you suggest is like a game we played as children figuring what different cloud formations looked like to us. each individual can look at the same thing and come up with a different interpretation. the more people more interpretations.

well, Allah told us that we should study science and you have to understand that Allah gave us ALL we need to believe and yet still people don't believe.

no matter what happens some people will not believe because it's easier to not believe in God.

God split the sea for Moses and what did the people of Israel do the minute Moses turned his back? they made an Idol and worshiped it!!!

Jesus performed many miracles to the Jews, did they believe? no they said he's a magician.

you know damn well that no matter what God does to us, those who can't believe won't believe.

That is very very strange to me.

I think you're seeing things.

And there are bad things in life to remind us of the good things. There is opposition in all things. It is necessary to be this way. And AIDS is the result of immoral and dirty people doing things they should never have done in the first place, so it's a punishment, in my opinion, to the world. And now innocent people have to suffer for it, too.

And the innocent suffer and die to prove as a testimony to God against the bad people who commited the sin in the first place.

Hope that makes sense.

Listen Aids is a curse from God to all those who disbelieve and give a damn to His teachings.Aids is our own creation.

Here are the causes of Aids:-
1) Multiple partners........... and Allah has strictly asked us to confine ourselves to our own spouses otherwise the result would be drastic and Aids is the result of disobedience.

2)Being Gay ...........Allah strictly condemns being gay and once again the result of this disobedience is Aids

3)Drugs.....Allah prohibits drugs and stupors of all kinds and again the result of the disobedience is Aids.

Famine comes to only those places that are under Allah's anger. The people of that area might have indulged in such activities that would have caused Allah to be angry and He brings famine to such places to teach a lesson to all disobedients.

So to ge rid of Aids and Famine. Once prostate (Bend)infront of Allah and obey His commands and there will be no Aids or Famine in this world.

Allah announces his presence through such signs just to strengthen the Faith of those who believe and to shock those who disbelieve.

The more I see the signs the more my Faith gets strengthened.

Allah Ho Akbar

The whole universe glorifies the name of Allah, so if some bread, a cloud or a tree does, it does not mean Allah is making some noise about His existence. It's just a natural occurrence in the universe.

The human hand also glorifies the name of Allah. It is in the shape of His name.
