Ive just started having golf lessons. Any tips on how to hit the ball really far (serious answers please). I read there is a Korean woman only 5' 2" who can hit over 350 yards, so it can be done. Im playing a game in a couple of weeks so need to hit it further than my current 50 yards and I dont have 10 years to practice! Also the more expensive the iron is does it make a difference, as I saw one for 850 quid the other day and mine cost about a fiver?!

Here you go
www.playgolfamerica.com look for Link Up 2 Golf in your area, it cost 99.00 and they should take you on the course at least 3 times. You may get a first time free lesson also. Go to www.pga.com improve your game section. You can find some great information there. You can also find some great links on my blog roll.

Annie,
The good news is, you neither need big biceps/triceps nor do you need the most expensive woods/direvers to convert your 50yd drive into a 150yd drive. Nor do you need to spend a life time in the driving range to get that 150yd (well you need some decent practice though). From my experince, if you get your basics right, you could easily reach 150yd within few weeks. Those basics are:
1.First, forget HITTING the ball, you never hit in golf, you just swing, that means, when you take the address you don't aim the impact to be where the ball is resting - the virtual point of impact should be a good one foot ahead and few inches higher in the swing path. SO DON'T HIT, JUST SWING
2. Your grip is very important - am sure your coach would have discussed this with you.
3. Your posture, the distance between your body and the ball makes a difference, could stifle/improve your swing
4. Last but not the least, the swing itself, an easy, relaxed and flowing swing with a good follow-through till the end, (with good balance of the body till the end) makes a huge difference.
There are many other finer aspects, but Annie, these are good enough to get you till 150yd.

For you to hit the ball 350 yards, I recommend teeing off from the top of a 1050 foot high cliff.

Get clubs that suit you, not that cost the most.

Most golfers would be better off spending 100 quid on gear and 400 quid on lessons, rather than 500 quid on gear.

Good luck, and remember to enjoy. The worst day on the golf course should be better than the best day at work.

We have a number of short video golf tips that you can access in the links below. Many of them can help you can more distance, particularly because some of the tips are specifically for women.

There is also a product called the Flush Hit Driver that we feature on the site. Watch the video for Flush Hit, which will show you where the best impact is on the clubface for a driver.

Good luck. You are exactly right. There is no reason that with the right technique, you shouldn't be flying it past us fellas!

u cant just hit the ball a good distance from start, its all bout timing, technique, club head speen, weight distribution etc and a repetative swing. all these take time to develop. it doesnt matter about size, shape etc its all about gettin the club head in the right position at impact. i bet that korean lady has been playin for a while and i bet she couldnt do it when she only just started.

if i was u id jus go out and enjoy, the distance will come naturally as u get better. dont try and hit i tharder aswell as u will just duff it more lol

as for the clubs they wont really make much difference at the start of ure playing career once u get better and kno what ure looking for thats when they can make a difference

The easiest way to learn golf like a pro is by following "The Simple Golf Swing" program. It's primarily a 31 page eBook that teaches golfers how to make solid contact with the ball, how to avoid hitting fat, how to avoid slicing, how get more power, accuracy, and consistency in your swing. Consistency being the number 1 golf skill.

You not only get the eBook though, you also receive a ton of extra material including video, lessons on putting, driving, chipping, sand play etc. Here is their official site: http://www.golfswingguru.net

The key is in the swing.

To hit the ball further your swing needs to be wider. Let me try to explain:

When you swing the club back your left arm should be pretty much straight. This means that your hands are high at the top of the backswing and the club head parallel to the ground and pointing at the target. As you begin your downswing try to straighten your right arm to impact with the ball.

The straighter your arms the further the clubhead will travel thus the faster it will travel without you swinging faster. Thus faster clubhead speed, greater shot distance.

You need to find the sweet spot that means you hit the ball in exactly the right way to make it travel further - presumably your coach can show you how to do this. It really means hitting a selection of balls from where you are standing until they consistently travel further

Depends on a few factors, normally if you use a driver ( 1 Wood ) it will go further providing you strike the ball in the middle.

Also try changing your grip.
