I think they have taken out the decoder from WMP 10 cos ver 11 also cannot play.
Could someone enlighten me on this, thanks so much.

u need to download and install divx codecs,,
the computer on which wmp9 is installed might have got these codecs,,
try to install them and thne run ur disc,, this shud definitely solve ur problem,,

Well for this, I don't think that it is the problem of any type of decoder because windows Xp has a built in decoder for windows media player to play DVD's although it is the problem of ur DVD drive .
Check it with other DVD CD and if it plays then might it be the problem of u r region selection.
For selecting region just go to the properties of ur DVD drive and select their the region mean the country where u live
It will finally solve ur problem
I have a samsung franchisee and their r many CD writers and drives comes daily for repairing and most of them has the problem that they read all kinds of compact disc except DVD's So i think that it may be the problem of ur DVD drive.

Decoder, you got that right; I need to install a separate player for it too to get the backend decoder installed; then WMP plays DVD too.
