I am an MT (massage therapist).. I have own and operate a massage studio by myself. It seems every couple weeks I get some weirdo client that acts strange. Well, my problem is that the other day I had a client who seemed perfectly normal until in the middle of the massage it seemed like he was pushing his "unit" towards me and at one point flopped it toward me as if he was trying to get me to respond.. I just ignored it and stopped working until he covered it again , but didnt say anything. I thought it would be the last I saw of him, but the next day he called for another appoinment!!! I refuse due to time restraints.. but he said he would call again today! .. Should I refuse the client or give him another chance?should I talk to him before we begin and let him know I dont tolerate inappropriate sexual conduct? and how should I say it ??

One, you could say you are booked up and have visiting family, and then refer him to a couple other MTs in the area and let them deal with him!

Or you could create a sign in reference to the conduct and other "rules" so it is very visible and have him wait in the "waiting room area" if you have one, to make him notice.

Then you could create a little waiver/rules sheet that all clients would have to sign upon each visit.

Sound good?

Yes, its very normal for a guy to mistake healing touch for sexuality. You should make your boundaries very clear and don't feel bad for that. Tell him that you are a massage therapist and do not do any sexual work and that you won't allow it in your studio. Then ask if he still wants to make the booking.

I am a guy, I like to think I am fairly well adjusted, but still body touching can be where the rational mind melts down and can cause confusion Remember he's just a confused and desperate person who needs healing. If you make it clear for him it might help.

Good luck!

Yes you should tell him straight out. In fact you should have the rules printed and give him a copy. Just let him know in a nice way (because you don't want him declining your clientel) that his behavior is to be appropriate and you are a professional not a prostitute! OK don't say that part but you know. Good luck!

If you do not make it very clear that you will not stand for that behavior he will do it again and maybe even worse. Either tell him his behavior in the last session was not acceptable and you will not make another appointment for him or tell him you will give him one more chance. But YOU must tell him or he will think it is what you want.

Avoid problems by not accepting his as a client.
