Temples in India are already very clean and hygiene. Dont mix random cases with overall state.
India has millions of big and small temples and most of them are great.
Temples like Akshardham in Delhi is the most advanced and beautiful religious places of the world. I dont think you can find any church or Mosque or Temple anywhere in the world like grand Akshardham temple.
Tirupati temple is the most visited religious shrine in the world and very clean and hygiene.
As india is becoming economic power, the situation is improving even further everywhere.
Also, Holy places are for devotion and prayers....Those who are searching for only cleanness and hygiene they should better go to some 5 star hotel.

One more aspect of corrupt politics 'dirtying' our heritage and culture.
This is because all the money from the temples goes into the govt. exchequer. All other religions have complete control over finances of their places of worship. Nothing goes to the govt. Foreign grants go directly into the kitty of the mosque or church for usage under the discretion of the religious head of that establishment. Not so in the case of temples. All the money given to the temple goes into the govt. kitty. So, the minister in power decides the salaries of the priests, the genuiness of articles of worship used and of course maintenance charges.
Unless the temple endowment policy is changed in India, the situation of temples will not improve. For an insight of how Hindus would manage their temples left to the people's admnistration, one simply needs to look at the swaminarayan temples (the one is London is the most famous, but others are equally enchanting) the Pittsburg Venkateshwara temple and many more Hindu temples outside India.

Yes,temples in India should be more clean & hygiene. It should be possible with the contribution of everyone.Every citizen must in mind that it is his/her duty to keep the public places like temple clean. If everyone takes the responsibility then our temple will also remain clean as gurudwara's.We shouldn't throw the waste papers or rappers here & there. They must be thrown in dustbins.

last year on my vacation to India, i did visit some temples. i dont find any problem except for some damages that have been sustained due to weathering conditions. it was very nice.
but no offence ............. why do u have seperate temples in some remote parts of India esp in North India -- one for wealthy and other for poor.? i dont know if all do that, but when the preist saw me, he turned away and took to his heels and another preist just gave me an angry look for nothing. i dont know if it was because i was a muslim.

YES.......AGREE!!!!!!!!!...
HAVE YOU VISITED A GURUDWARA???....U SHOULD..YOU WILL KNOW THE DIFFERENCE...IN GURUDWARA EVERYTHING IS IN SO ORDER....YOU WOULD FIND THE DEVOTEES IF NOT WORKERS CLEAN THE DIRTY PLATES AS THEIR SERVICE TOWARDS GOD....THEY DON'T MIND CLEANING THE FLOOR EVEN......THATS SOMETHING IN THEIR MINDSET OF SIKHS....TOTAL DEVOTION TOWARDS THE GOD....
YOUR QUESTION ABT IMPROVEMENT....AGAIN THE TEMPLE AUTHROTIES SHOULD ADOPT THE GURUDWARA MODEL...
YOU KNOW WHEN ITS VERY HOT AN MARBLE IS BURNING UNDRE YOUR FEET..IN GURDWARAS THEY KEEP ON WATERING IT...THE FOOT MAT IS MADE WET REGULARLY..SO THAT DEVOTEES DONT GET BURN THEIR FEET....
EVEN THE BIGGEST GURUDWARAS HAVE BAZARS ALSO WELL MANAGED...WE SHOULD LEARN FROM SIKHS....
AND IF YOU HAVE A DOUBT..VISIT ANY GURUDWARA...U''LL GET THE PROOF..

First, infrastructure. More than 700 million indians do not have access for toilets and drinking water. They struggle without any answer.Talking more about this is very painful. Instead of making empty rhetorics,we have to focus on this with a master plan.
