No. Religion was a means of explaining things that primitive humans had no science to explain. The idea of rebirth is one of the oldest ideas of humanity - they saw how everything died in the winter and came back to life in the spring.
Natural disasters happened because the gods were displeased - so sacrifices were made to appease them. Primitive people did not understand that the earth had tectonic plates which moved and caused earthquakes.

Inverted???
Okay, assuming that's a typo, no.
That is a nothing more than very cheap contention thrown out chiefly (though not exclusively) by unnecessarily belligerent atheists.
Religion is purely and simply a means by which people can express outwardly their inward belief in some power higher than themselves. Which usually means a deity of some kind.
More, it provides a sense of union with other like-minded people and guidelines for living.
Some of the most intelligent and free-thinking individuals I know are the most deeply religious. Which rather knocks that little "thought slavery" mumbo jumbo on the head.

I don't understand how religions could be invented - take Judaism for example, The Old Testament records that there were more than 600,000 people when The Ten Commandments were given, which is only about 3,000/3,500 years ago. I mean, at what point did a guy come in and say "hey you guys, we're all Jewish because I just remembered this Mt. Sinai thing last week", and everyone in the room says "perfect timing, we just remembered it too", and based on that a religion is still ongoing?!?

All religions were invented by men for almost similar reasons. The very main reason was the effort of our ancestors to explain the world. Fear of unknown made our ancestors to make up different Gods in order to explain the natural events happening around them. Later on as time went on their knowledge increased and they combined all Gods into one. The reason people still believe in religions is the same reason. Fear of unknown and this time not about the natural events but about what happens to us after death.

All religions are about controlling the masses and perpetuating the power of an elite group. Religion can be used very effectively to keep the downtrodden in their place by emphasising the life to come over their current miserable conditions. What amazes me is that so many of my fellow humans co-operate so whole-heartedly with this deception.
