Just one of the many double standards in our society, although you don't need to subscribe to such outdated concepts.

There are several reasons for this double standard:
Concerning most males:
- they are popular among their peers if they are "scoring" on a regular basis with hot chicks.
- their manly self-esteem is greatly derived from their ability to be sexually active with different women.
- they do have a stronger sex drive due to testosterone and a penis that begs to be satisfied.
- media and avertising re-inforce approval that a man who beds women is highly regarded
Concerning most women:
- there own gender/peers mostly disapprove of promiscuous women
- even most men are derogatory of promiscuous women
- promiscuous women don't have the positive support of the media.
Women can and do enjoy the pleasures of sex, but it's women who get pregnant and bear children, thus requiring them to be selective. A woman's reputation is important if she wants to meet and marry the best man possible.

going back to the *jungle* men who are dominant get the girls and become the alpha male so get the respect of the group. women who mate with many are looked down on as the males wont know which is their offspring
