You don't need to be "smart", all you need to do is to pick up a dictionary and dissect the world. Firstly tele is of greek origin meaning far away ( as in television - to see far away, telephone, to hear far away, or in modern English, to hear from a great distance). Second part of the world Latin,( actually meaning common thing) to transmit, to impart, in this case information, ideas etc.
Interesting that a word in English is a combination of Greek and Latin.
