What is the average BMR for a 20 year old male?

I'm not sure you can really average it out. Are we talking a couch potato or a college athlete? Both figures work into the "average".

And it isn't just a matter of age. You also have to figure in the weight and height. The standard Harris & Benedict calculcation for BMR in males is
66.4730 + (13.7516 * w) + (5.0033 * s) − (6.7550 * a)
where:
w = weight in kilograms
s = stature in centimeters
a = age in years

So to come up with a true average BMR for 20 year old males you have to come up with their average weight and how tall they are on average. That is going to differ widely by where you a sampling. Just the USA? Worldwide? Urban? Rural?

I suppose with a bit of legwork you can get these figures from the Bureau of Statistics.
