Jane ~
The best glove, actually it's a toss about between two brands, Grant and Reyes. In my opinion, I will lean more towards Grant. The only reason I would choose Grant over Reyes would be, Grants glove fits a lot tighter to the fist than Reyes, even with my hands wrapped properly there seems to be a lot of room in the fist area.
Grant and Reyes Gloves are both made in Mexico both are handmade and hand stitched. These gloves are considered "Punchers Gloves" due to the sleek design and the padding is distributed throughout the length of the glove as opposed to Everlast, Tuf-Wear and a few other brands that concentrates most of their padding in the knuckle area. Reyes is actually based out of Mexico and Grant is based out of the United States. Both the Brands offer affordable high quality gloves for sparring and fighting.
There is a third glove that I should mention, although it's a bit pricey, "Winning" a Japanese made glove seems to be the glove of choice for boxers with bad hands (Eric Morales) because they use seven layers of padding compared to every ones four layers. I've tried these gloves and they are nice but, In my opinion, nothing beats a Grant or Reyes glove.
Thanks Jane.

A good choice would be Reyes and Grant. Their material are of good quality and they have been used on most of the championship combats than others. But if you want to get a cool look on your fists than a pair of good designed boxing gloves try with other brands.

Depending on the size of your hand, I have always used Everlast (size 16). You might want to consider a size 14 to start. Your hand should feel snug, not cramped.

Stay away from Everlast - the only thing their gloves are good for is for clowns to use at kids' birthday parties.
