I am no expert, but from my knowledge as a mother, anything you are taking will trasfer to your baby through breast milk. Dont take my word for it though because your baby is very precious so dont take any risks...Contact you local nursing mothers association they will give you the answers you are needing.

The answer is "maybe." Like taking the drug during the pregnancy, this is an issue that you must discuss with your doctors, both OB and psych. Some Risperdal passes into human milk, but a very small concentration compared to your blood stream. There are not many studies on babies fed by mothers taking the drug and the good news is that in the few I could find the babies did well. It's "category C" for pregnant women which means we just don;t know.

Always you have to weigh the risks to you as well as risks to the baby. You might be able to switch medication or you might not, but only you working with your doctors can decide how big the risk is or whether you want to take it.

Breast milk is usually the best for babies, but millions are raised on formula and do just fine.

No you cannot breast feed while being on Risperdal. Risperdal blocks dopamine and 5-HT2 receptors in the brain. It would be advisable to consult with your doctor before stopping this medication. i don't know why you were prescribed Risperdal unless it's for schizophrenia. This medication is dangerous in hot weather because of an increase in heatstroke. Good luck and please call your doctor.

Always consult your physician. Usually, the adverse effects of a sudden withdrawal from medication like Risperdal can be worse than the illness it is treating itself..
