Base pay is not determined by family size, it is determined by your rank and Time in service.

Special pays are determined by skill set and/or location.

Allowances are paid at two rates.. with or without dependants. doesn't matter oif you have a spouse or a spouse and ten kids.

COLA is the ONLY allowance paid per individual, but it is only paid when stationed OCONUS(or a very small select few CONUS locations)

The Navy will not pay extra based on your kids, they used to but not anymore. Now what you will get is E-1, if you deciede to join, since you have kids your are probably older and you can negotiate for E-2 or E-3, but thats it. With a degree you are talking Officer which is a lot better.

Depending on where you live you will get paid a certain amount for a house based on with family. It will be better then a single sailor gets. In San Diego I was an E-5 making 1000 per month just for my rent. People with families and my same rank were making 1400 per month. The figures just went up though, now its like 1700 or 1800 extra per month (BAH, Basic Allowance Housing) on top of your regular pay. E-3s make about 1200 a month. So you could possibly make 2500 a month your first year in. Go overseas and you will get a lot more. In Sicily I was an E-3 making 3000 a month.

They pay by rank not by the size of your family. At least here in the U.S.
