yes it is some do it to feel they have control. usually for a fault within themselves. when others have problems they think that putting someone else down makes them feel bigger. you know the saying misery loves company it is true. for one to feel superior over another is sort of what the devil tried to do to God. he wanted to be better or even thought he could. let me tell you this there is not one person better than another. and our Father in heaven has no respect a person. it dont rain no different on one person than the other, meaning it comes on each of us the same. i used to hear the saying she puts her pants on the same way you do one leg at a time

Yes it is a sin to be judgemental.
So why do we do it? Most of us our human and we have our own insecurities and by judging others around us we can elevate ourselves in our own mind and feel better about ourselves.
It would be nice if we could just enjoy the differances instead of judging them. Be content within our own bodies and personalities and just be!

Yes it's the only mortal sin left in the church without Christ, preaching a Christ without a cross.
Judge not lest you be judged is very misused and applied to absurd circumstances, we all make judgments as we have to in this life what's wrong is to make rash judgments.

I don't know about a sin but I would think it would be pretty hypocritical in most religions. One should always practice what they preach or they undermine their own belief system and makes them look like a fool. Thats why I turn a blind eye to most preachers because they don't usually even practice what they are talking about.

It is a sin to Judge (Condemn some one in Old English). Most people confuse a Rebuke with Judgement. I as a christian am allowed to Rebuke.
But it is good to teach with rebuke:
2 Timothy 4:1-4
1I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
From http://www.dictionary.com :
re‧buke, /rɪˈbyook/
1. to express sharp, stern disapproval of; reprove; reprimand.
–noun
2. sharp, stern disapproval; reproof; reprimand.
