You know in anime, movies, television, and all that jazz a highly trained person will throw a knife, dagger, or SOMETHING with a point?

When they throw it, the object never seems to spin around before it hits it's target. It stays straight the whole duration that it's in transit. Is this just movie hogwash, or is this actually physically possible? It seems impossible.

It is possible yes, however technically it is not as powerful.

Even an arrow is designed to oscilate as that helps it be more powerful and penetrating.

Darts, steel pins, and knives can all be thrown without spinning. But unless it spins in some sort of fashion (like an arrow or bullet) it is not as accurate or as powerful.
