Oh I am terrified of the dentist. It usually happens for either your first visit or if you had bad experiences in the past. When I was six, I had eight baby teeth pulled because they were unhealthy due to anemia when I was a baby and taking iron pills basically rotted them... Anyway, I've been to five dentists in my life and I'm only eighteen, but I found one that I really enjoy. He's very very nice, and if I feel any pain or discomfort, he takes care of it. If he/she is having dental work done, tell them to ask their dentist about getting Atavin. It's a gentle antistetic that'll help calm their nerves. If you have a nice dentist, there should be nothing to worry about, tell them to tell their dentist about their fear and they should be extra gentle.

I use to be very scared of my dentist, I could not understand what he was saying and he seemed to do unnecessary work, I am in the UK and dental treatment was free, so I think he made money by drilling and filling.

I did not go for 4 years, but I had lost a filling so I went to a dentist a friend recommended and I thought I would need loads of work but she just replaced the filling. I have been going to the same dentist regularly ever since and have not had anything done for years.

Well yes and I just didn't go until I found a dentist who specializes in people who are afraid of going to the dentist. Now I still don't like going, but I go anyway. He's helped some friends of mine who were really terrified of going. There are quite a lot of dentists in Holland who specialize in people who are afraid to go. I suppose there must be special dentists were you live too. They are regular dentists and it doesn't cost extra but they know how to deal with people and their dentist fears.

I am not nearly as afraid of the dentist as I am having to gum my food for the rest of my life. Much of whole body health arises from oral health and if there is limited funds for public health initiatives it is ALWAYS dental care that gets top priority. Think about it....when people's teeth go bad they go from eating healthy foods that require chewing such as fruits and vegetables to unhealthy foods that don't.

My advice: find a busy dentist. The harder to get an appointment to see them chances are the better they are. And a good dentist will make it a painless process because they want to be certain you won't be afraid of dentists and will continue to take care of your teeth.

I used to be, mainly because i couldn't stand having people cramming things in my mouth, plus the noise of the machines and also I hate needles, so any type of filling always bothered me.

But if your friend tells the dentist that she has fears, they will help him cope with them. I always wear sunglasses so that the light doesn't bother me, and I am offered headphones with music. But the dentist can come up with other suggestions.

Your friend should go regularly, or else she might develop cavities or have gum problems. People often lose perfectly good teeth because their gums are in bad shape. But these fears can be resolved, so let's hope for the best for your friend, but this should not be delayed.

I always am worried that this'll be the time I get my first filling, I've never had one so it's fear of the unknown for me, I almost wish I did have rotten teeth sometimes.
