After all they would have died eventually, but have gone to Heaven, but by committing the sin of disobedience, had turned their backs on God.
All creatures were made to die physically.
Also, animals weren't made in God's image, only humans were.
Animals were made according to their kind, and would have just decayed to nothing, with no soul to go to Heaven,
