I got my Gentle Leader yesterday, and it is incredible! My Pittie wasn't too thrilled at first, but he calmed down and I actually *enjoyed* our daiuly walk! I'm even thinking about going for two or three walks a day now! It is great!

Just so its a legal question and not a happy rave...

Have you tried the Gentle Leader?

Wonderful aid! I have loaned mine, and I never get them back! lol

You can get them cheap on eBay...but never let the sales people in pet shops convince you that the Halti is the same..they are NOT

I got my first one when hthey were called 'the promiise system''..that was in the 1980's...then they came with a 12 foot light lead, and a spiral book...Then they changed their name to Gentle Leader..Halti is just a knock-off, and doesn't fit or work as well.

Yeah, they can work wonderfully on most dogs. But I've known dogs to pull against them and learn to just bully their way forward. Glad it's working for you...Gentle Leader has another one out, I believe. I'm using it now and it's more of a harness affair that pulls more against their upper legs--- supposed to prevent a full 'stride'
BTW, I LOVE pitties and owned a most gentle one. But what an abused breed. Our shelters here in VA are full of them, It's so sad.

I think they're great. And a good idea for people who have trouble controlling their dog and absolutely no idea of how a check chain is meant to be used.

I used one for ages (different brand- Halti-, but same idea) on my Ridgeback x Mastiff- he was 8 months old when I took him on and had never been taught to walk on a lead. (Or been taught anything else for that matter...why people buy dogs with no intention of training them is beyond me...)

I tend to prefer a check chain when I train dogs, but found it impossible to use one on him at that stage because he'd bounce all over the place, and could easily jump to my shoulder height. And even then he weighed nearly as much as I do! The halti gave me much better control, and our training happened much faster and more smoothly that I think it would have done using the chain.

I really love them! We always called them the " five minute attitude adjuster!" They work on the behavior of the dog, and do not require brute force. Most dogs actually respond very quickly, and do great with them.

i've bought one, but haven't used it, my puppy is always too busy trying to pull it off to go for a walk. I'm determined to get her out walking over the next few days!
