Yes, other cartoons are sitll violent but somehow, cartoons nowadays seem less innocent and more intentfully malicious-- I cant explain it.
Plus, the animation moves WAY to QUICKLY and the storyline is WAY too BUSY and fast. No wonder kids are ADD, with flashing screens constantly and lots of noise, of course a classroom is going to be 'boring' in comparison!
I remember watching those plus simple shows like the original batman, the Munsters, and other innocent shows. I do fear for ourgeneration and the next quite highly with how insensitive everything is, and how marked by selfishness and impatience everything is....

First of all I'd like to say that not everything a child watches needs to be of educational value. I seriously doubt that all the parents here only watch things that offer educational value. There is a thing called entertainment and children deserve some down time too, simply to be entertained.
As for The Flintstones and Bugs Bunny--you did not find those violent? They were very violent. As a I recall, more than one character often had a gun and used it!! There were explosions. All the characters were always getting hurt. The Flintstones was also violent and Fred was verbally abusive. The cartoons today are not any worse. Maybe a bit different but not worse. I watch with my kids all the time and while I find some cartoons weird or their premise rather ridiculous, I've seen nothing to be alarmed about. In fact, there are quite a few clever cartoons out there now that are quite hilarious.

I used to watch Bugs Bunny and the Flinstones. If you think about it, those were also quite violent. Elmer Fudd trying to kill the Bunny Wabbit. I understand where you're coming from. The new cartoons are just... BLAH. I personally wouldn't want my child watching some of them. When you said tbs, did you mean PBS?

Yes, I do. It is really a shame what horrible cartoons are sometimes made for kids these days !!
Here in Singapore these horrible cartoons exist too, but at luck you don't have to stick to those as there are also nice and very friendly or funny ones.

I remember they were appropriate and also interesting. These days not even with cable can you see good cartoons, you need the most expensive version of cable to see them. It sucks. The others are either too voilent with no storyline or too boring with no storyline.
I miss pepper ann.

They had something that came with the television when I was a kid, it was the way our parents monitored our television time. It was called an ON/OFF button. I beleive that to this day televisions as well as remotes come with them, yet I don't see many parents using them.

Remember when wrestling used to be family oriented too?
What we get off antenna is what now they call acceptable in the FCC.
Soon they will have the likes of cursing comedies on there as well.
