I have really long hair. You don't need to trim it as often as shorter hair cuts, but you should get it trimmed 1-2 inches every 2-3 months, to keep it healty. Don't worry, it sounds like a lot, but it'll still grow. It's better to have slow growing healthy hair, than fast and a lot of split ends.
The best advice that I can give you, is to get a really good leave in conditioner and use it on your ends. Split ends are the biggest problem with long hair. Also, if you want, you can add a little more extra to your ends, on top of the leave in conditioner.
The products that I recommend using are Herbal Essence's Leave in conditioner and for extra for your ends, Bed Head Ego Boost Split End Mender. You can use Bed Head, in addition to another Leave in conditioner or use it alone on your ends.

I have long hair that's about 4 inches from my butt. It's not super thick but I have a lot of it so it appears to be much thicker than it really is. I get my hair trimmed, about 1-2 inches every 3 months. I can't stand to have split ends. I also take a prenatal vitamin even though I'm not pregnant which helps my hair and nails grow like weeds! To keep my hair looking healthy I don't ever use a blow dryer on it or hair spray, mouse, gel, etc... And I only use a curling iron once or twice a month if my husband is taking me out. I do however dye my roots every month. This is why I stear clear of all the other harmful products. Good luck!

Of course you have to have the ends of your hair trimmed whilst growing it, but the rate of hair growth varies form person to person and the condition in which you keep your hair will also determine how often you have to trim the ends!! Hairdressers usually tell you that you have to have your hair cut every six to eight weeks in order to grow it but I think they say this to make sure that you go back to the salon in eight weeks !! To grow long locks, keep your hair in tip top condition ,keeping an eye on the ends! When you need a trim your hair will tell you by becoming unmanagable....time for a trim!!!!!!Personally I would say every 12 weeks or so is adequate between trims whilst growing your mop! Oh, and be sure to tell the hairdresser that you are growing your hair and to only take off the dead ends otherwise they may undo all your good work by cutting off too much.GOOD LUCK!

Yes I have long hair. Yes, it is necessary for me to have my hair trimmed about every six -eight weeks. If your hair is mid-length having your hair trimmed will actually keep it healthy as it grows longer.

Shampoos and conditioners that are recommended by hair stylists are usually much better for your hair then the stuff you buy at the grocery store. I like K-Pac brand - makes my hair feel and look great. Also a little silk protein put into the hair makes it feel thicker, and shinier

It is nearly essential to trim split ends from your hair, but the frequency of trimming definitely depends on your lifestyle and the elements your hair is exposed to.

If you get a trim every two months, you could be cutting off more length than you've grown in that time. Getting a trim every six months also could be too long a period of time to go without a cut. Definitely trim when you notice split ends. :)

The more you protect hair from things like sun, wind, and heat styling damage, the less likely your hair will be to break off, and the more length you will see.

Yes! Definately get it cut regularly. If you don't by the time it gets to be the long length that you want, it will look really stringy and unhealthy. My hair can grow from my shoulders to my waist in two years. Since it grows so fast, I donate it to Locks for Love. I suggest doing that as well. It makes you feel so good knowing you are helping someone!!!

Hair grows from the the roots not from the bottom. But because the botton can get scraggy and ends may split, it often looks bad and in actual fact can become shorter (due to ends breaking off) so a little trim every two/three months makes the hair look better.

Yes, I do. I think it is necessary to get your hair periodically. You should because it eliminates split ends and makes your hair healthier.

Wash your hair with a gentle shampoo, use a separate conditioner every time and comb your tangles out by pulling gently, never tugging which causes breakage. I also suggest having your hair trimmed ever 3-4 months to get rid of split ends. It is best to towel dry hair instead of blow drying which causes damage, as does dyeing and/or processing hair. Try using Alberto VO5 no heat oil hair treatment, it is good for moisturizing hair. You can do this about once a week to soften hair.

When i was growing my hair i only went to the hair dressers about once a year, i was really lucky as my hair is very strong, grows fast and in really good condition, It is important tho if your hair is not in good condition to have a good cut before you start growing it and take care of it by using deep conditioners and avoiding heated appliances if you can. I also avoided brushing mine to much and got a mason and pearson brush, something worked because i got my shoulder lenght hair down to the bottom of my back really quickly
