I strap him in but he still manages to get out of it and stand up!! Lately it has also been very difficult to get him to eat anything aswell. Ive tried and tried everything you can think of and he still wont eat. He picks at things and certain things but hes just not interested, he wont let me feed him anything of a spoon anymore and he doesnt want anything when i put it infron of him either. His afternoon bottle he doesnt really want and his nighttime one i have to give him half of it when hes asleep in his cot. What can i do?? hes definately not sick i tok him to the health nurse the other day.

He's at that age where they start turning down food. He won't starve. He's just found other things to do (like standing in his high chair) that are more fun than boring old eating. I'm sure he grabs the spoon right off of you and plays with it when you try and feed him. Try letting him hold his own spoon and feeding him with a different one. You can also try letting him feed himself. It'll be really messy and he won't get much but it will make food more fun and make him more inclined to sit still for it later. If he doesn't want it then he doesn't want it. As long as you've offered it, you're doing the right thing. Trying to make him eat will only result in a big, screeching, crying mess. Just let him go. Keep offering the food and the bottle and by the way, he may not need the same amount of bottles a day as before. Try omitting the "afternoon bottle" and see what happens. If he seems hungry later, give it to him then, or give him some solid food. As long as he isn't losing weight, don't worry about it. I never subscribed to that scheduled feeding thing. I have three and I fed mine when they were hungry and put them to sleep when they were tired. They make their own schedule.

This isn't what you want to hear, but my otherwise very well-behaved daughter (all her life) would get out from under the car seat straps at five months old and until she could stand up. She then stood up everywhere - the shopping cart, the car seat, the high chair, swings, and anything that two feet could get any footing on- until she was (get ready) S I X ! ! !

The only thing I can suggest is to be aware that you've got a stander and never leave him unattended or without your hand on him.

I shouldn't have answered this question because - really - the only answer I have is to tell you he'll grow out of it in five years. (When it comes down to it, though, other than risks to himself; if he likes standing let him stand. I, personally, wouldn't want to stand for five, solid, unrelenting,.bloody, years - but that's me.)

A booster chair, or a different style high chair might work. The simple restaurant style ones are very hard for the children to stand up in.

As for getting him to eat, that is tough. Try to always have healthy snacks available so he can graze. My daughter is 1 also, and wont eat much at a sitting but she is almost always nibbling. It works for us.

It's dangerous to leave him in a high chair. I think he's ready for a booster chair. As far as eating, as long as he's healthy, put the food in front of him and he will eat if he's hungry. He has probably stopped growing for the time being and will eat you out of house and home when he get a growth spurt.
