I doubt that it would make your kids sick unless they have weak immune systems.
You must realise that little childrens immune systems are working much more rapid than adults as they are apart from being exposed to germs in the bathtub, they are exposed to other germs going into their mouths from their hands which dont get washed for example after playing with pets or dirty toys which lay in the dirt.
Something to think about.

I'm with you on this one. I threw out all of my daughter's bath toys that have holes in them. I know I can bleach them but I just can't get past the thought of mold. I say better safe than sorry. There are many fun bath toys that do not have any holes in them so your child will not be lacking.

You don't have to throw those toys away. Periodically, every two weeks, you can fill up the sink with water, mix a cup of bleach in there and suck bleachwater into the toy. Bleach will kill anything growing inside. You have to be sure to fill the toys with clean water a few times and squirt the bleachwater out, but they will be safe.

I had never thought of this! It does seem totally mindless!. But I guess kids like to be stimulated by moving/gushing water.
I have a little one on the way, and I will definately think of your advice when purchasing bath toys. If I do buy ones with holes in, I will only keep them for a short time (and will keep them disinfected).

anything that is plastic and gets wet will get mold on it!
Just dip them in a lil clorox to kill the germs, your kid will be just fine. Dont deprive them of the fun in those classic toys.
Millions of kids have played with them and Im sure there have been no fatalities reported.
