Almost everyone has air-conditioning in Beijing because their summer would be unbearable without it.
If you time your visit to Beijing to include the first week of October you'll experience their week-long national holiday celebrating the founding of the People's Republic, and you should still get some really pleasant weather. In that case, make sure you go to Tiananmen Square on Republic day. Nearly all of China is on holiday for "Golden" week and hundreds of thousands of people flock to the capital from the provinces, many for the holiday of their lifetime.
The square is massive, and you'll never have seen crowds as big. Whatever time of the year you go, make sure you visit the Great Hall of the People (built in just 10 months - wait till you see it), and the History museum opposite it. The place is simply breathtaking. We visited the Forbidden City, a Buddhist mountain temple, Beihai Park, and the Summer Palace, and the Dr Sun Yat Sen memorial gardens, and the Great Wall (well, of course the Great Wall), the Hutong District of the City, He Shen palace and gardens. Weather in Late September and October is still warm and sunny but comfortably so and you can wear short sleeves late into the evening. Fabulous place. Enjoy your trip!

Autumn is the best time in Beijing but it's a little dry. However, golden fall is the most beautiful season in Beijing.
Red leaves in the Great Wall and in Western Mountain.
Welcome to Beijing!

There are nine million bicycles in Bejing, thats a fact!

Well.. Its more of an estimation. I mean, if that were true, what would happen if there was a little child who wanted his first bike.. Wouldn't he be allowed because it would mess up the numbers or something?

Stupid, stupid song.

I found that even I wilted when I went end March/April this year due to temp being 8-33 degrees but humidity was 60-95%. But it is also dependant on what you wish 2 see.

The 31st of February (ie. never)
No. Seriously, if you REALLY want to go.
Autumn. Mid Sept - Early Nov.

Winter will freeze you, think how close it is to Inner Mongolia, and Summer will be a humid, polluted dust-bowl.
Spring is OK but Autumn is longer and more stable.

The best time is fall or spring... stay far away from Nov-Feb and Jun-Aug. It'll be freezin cold and disgustingly hot and humid. I went in early-mid Oct last year and it was very pleasant, a little cooler at night but nothing that would cause any problems.

Fall is the best time to go. The weather is perfect. Winter it's way too cold, and in spring you have to deal with the sand storms. Summer is way too hot as well.
