Today me and my youngest daughter went to my friend's house for lunch. She lives in a residential neighborhood where all of the parking is public. There was one parking space on the street and it was accross the street from her house on. There was this guy with his leaf blower outside, just standing almost in the middle of the street, and the chord to it was all over the place I wanted to park, I kind of hovered around the spot, giving him the indication that I wanted to park there and that I would wait for him to move himself and his cord, and he just stood there starring down at me like I was some criminal or something. I then got sick of this and just pulled into the parking space and he starred at me more. I then got my daughter and went into my friends house for lunch. When I came back, he was still there and was still giving me a dirty look like I wasn't supposed to be there when it was a public parking place, and a public street!

My guess; that guy was seriously mad and jealous because of 4 things.

1. YOU don't have to blow leaves
2. YOU have friends
3. YOU have a family
4. YOU have a car

Eat that leaf blower dude!

Even though it's a public parking place on a pubic street people are funny about the spots in front of their homes, especially if they don't have a private drive way. They look at the parking spots in front of their homes as belonging to them, and heaven help anybody that parks in their spot; especially in a neighborhood with a lot of cars.

My nextdoor neighbor had a party for one of his kids a while back and as a result he needed to park his car somewhere else other than on his property, so he parked it down the block a bit on the side street on public property. When he went to get his car after the party he found the back seat window busted out. His car is an older economy car and he nothing of value in the car. As a matter of a fact, the car wasn't even locked. Obviously, somebody didn't like him parking his car in their usual space in front of their house.

Unfortunately you get them in every neighbourhood - the self appointed neighbourhood watch. They are generally people who feel that not only is there home their territory, but the whole street. They generally have very empty lives and a very cock-eyed view of values and right and wrong. It gives me great pleasure winding people like that up, within the law of course. The best thing to do is work on a basis of ignoring them, because that's what really gets them wound up!

Unfortunately, there are people with foul dispositions everywhere. While I don't know why people in general are jerks, the people that I've encountered who were jerks were unhappy with certain aspects of their lives. Rather than fixing what ever aspect that they were unhappy with, they'd treat every one around them terribly. I've never understood why people don't actively pursue venues that make them happy or happier. To each their own. Just ignore it and move on.

I think what you should have done was ask him if he minded if you could park in the empty space, some people are just the way they are, we can only be compassionate to them, or drive ourselves nuts trying to figure them out, let it go, at least he did,nt damage your car, that could have been awful, but he did,nt.

I think a lot of it has to do with the way a person was raised. If they were treated badly or neglected then they have no idea of how to act. Some people are miserable with themselves and want everyone around them to be miserable too.

There is no point in even wasting time worrying about this person. He may have been having a bad day and sick of rude people just like you. He may have stared because he has a job to do just like we all do. He may just be a jerk. Don't worry about it! If you see him again, maybe ask...he may surprise you.

Maybe he is mentally ill. You got your parking space. Who cares what he thinks. Why didn't you just ask him to move?

Sounds like he's very territorial. I don't think you did anything wrong. Just forget about him.
