I have a siberian husky-mix. one of his parents is a white-german shepherd, the other is a husky. however, he doesn't act like a normal dog at all....he doesn't listen, he's not afraid of the things dogs are afraid of (fire-trucks, fire-crackers, etc..) and he will attack anyone. we've been to the vet, and he couldn't give any information about this. how can you tell if a dog is part wolf?

we also talked with the people we got him from, and of course, they say he isn't part-wolf....

To tj_george...: what the hell?

Oops, I forgot to say that the people I bought him from actually had a wolf-dog along with the other two...I think that maybe this wolf-mutt is one of his real parents....but my question is what are the charachteristics of a wolf-hybrid...?

Your dog is acting dominant. Some dogs need more patience & a firmer hand to train.Huskies are known to be aloof & can sense when you are not in control. They will then behave the way they want showing dominance & aggression.Spend at least a 1/2 hour a day on obedience training. This takes patience & dilligence on your part. After your training session spend some time playing & praising your dog. Your dog will come to look forward to these sessions & actually enjoy them. Now this does not happen overnight so keep the faith. You will be rewarded with a happy dog & an enjoyable companion.Remember ,theres no bad dogs just mis-informed owners.

Hello Isis, To know for sure if hes part wolf,You would have to see the parents of him.Did you ask to see his parents? You might want to call the person you purchased your dog from, and make an appointment to see both parents. Alot of people selling pups will tell you anything to get you to buy a puppy.Theres one thing i wanted to ask, CAN YOUR DOG HEAR???. If he can't not that can account for not being afraid of fire crackers, and other really loud noises. I purchased a queensland healer about 3 years back and she was the sweety little girl, and she never bark or pee or poop in the house. She was out in the front yard playing, and a car when down the street, she couldn't get out,but she try to catch the car.So i yelled her name, and she kept running,i try 1 more time, and she still didn't come.I test her hears and she couldn't hear a damn thing. Thats why i asked you if he could hear.

All dogs in general are pack animals weather they be yorkies , terriers, or shepherds , some need more intense training then others and just because he is not afraid of some things does not make him part wolf the only true way to find out is through genetic testing which is something that they do not do .It sounds like you need to be more assertive with your training remember dogs are pack animals and if your dog is dominating you he will continue to do it until you make him /her realize where his place in your home is and that is the bottom , try to get him to a trainer. BTW just because he is dominant does not make it yours or anyone Else's fault sometimes behavior is something that is passed on ( like in pit bulls ) still does not mean he has wolf in him

The reason he isn't afraid of most things are probably cause of his genes, and how he grew up.

Is he big? Wolves tend to be a lot bigger than dogs-even Siberian Huskys

My guess would be that he's probably not, but of course, I have no way of knowing.

A wolf is a dog in general, so there isn't to much you could do to find out except guess

just because he not frightened of loud noises is no indication that he is part wolf because unless they have been raised around loud noises wolves would be afraid of loud sudden sounds. Besides some physical characteristics that would be more obvious they can run a DNA test to see if he has any wolf genes

He sounds much as a typical Siberian Husky.. they Are a very different breed, and have many wolf-like behaviors.

There are some dogs that are overprotective, he has a one set mind to do what he wants. Take him to training to take care of most of those problems, having no fear is not uncommon in a dog, I have a small Yorkie no more than 4 lbs and he has no fear of loud sounds or my old dog (a 6 month old Rottweiler). It's in his genes and upraising.

you have to find out about the parents. unless he distinctly looks like a wolf hybrid. all the things u mentioned can be taught or learned. some dogs arent scared of much.

I don't think so. There sare wolves and dogs. Even the wild dogs are dogs, not wolves. So... the dog is a dog and a wolf is a wolf. But they are related far back in time.
