I need more iron in my diet. Are there certain factors that deplete iron in the body? Like coffee depletes calcium, and smoking depletes vitamin C. But is there anything that depletes iron? What can I eat to boost iron? I'm taking prenatal vitamins but I need a little more than I'm getting because I'm breastfeeding.

Decreasing protien lowers your iron intake. Are you a vegetarian? There are two types of protien, complete and imcomplete. If you are vegetarian (or non-lacto), you can mix two incompletes or an incomplete and a complete protien to get the necessary amount of a complete protien for your diet. (Incomplete protiens include: rice, beans, corn tortillas, etc)
