My daughter just started an advanced choir class that is very early in the morning. We are wondering if there is anything she should eat or drink before going that would help her vocal chords not only wake up but be able to work properly and be good for them also. Thank you.

1. Do not eat dairy, grease, or sugar 2 hours prior to singing.
2. Eat a lemon, a small container of grapefruit/pink grapefruit juice, or lime juice 1 hour prior to singing. 6 oz is plenty.
3. Go to walmart Pharmacy and ask for a spray called Entertainer's Secret. It is a throat spray. It should cost less than $5.00. It will help tremendously.

No, it is best to warm up the vocal cords using warm up techniques. I have listed a website with some techniques that many people, including myself, use to warm up the vocal cords.

Not listed but also good: say each consonant before each vowel. ex: Ba Be Bi Bo Bu, Ca Ce Ci Co Cu, etc.

A little lemon in warm water would help clear up phlegm. She could do some gentle vocal warmups (humming, smale scales) on the way to school.

water!!, no chocolate, milk, juice, sweet things, sticky things, sour things, NO DIARY!!!! if she showers befroe she leaves, do some nice and easy warm ups, the heat with help with teh vocal chords, and also rub/massage your vocal chords(altho not to hard, it could have a reversed effect) massage the face, especially the cheecks!!!! sing on vowels like 'e' 'a' 'ah' 'o'---lower notes though starting off, going up the scales, 4 at a time like CDEF, CDEF, CDEF, and then DEFG, DEFG, DEFG and then EFGA, EFGA, EFGA etc! good luck!

Honey and Lemon is great and also take vitamin c each day as this will boost the immune system and prevent coughs and colds

lots of juice and water, but absolutely noooooo milk,it will coat the vocal chords and cause her to strain

honey and lemon tea is good for the voice, the lemon clears it, I'm not sure what the honey does, but they always have it backstage during musicals and concerts.
water is good for the voice too.
no dairy, it'll clog everything up.
