Im sure Im not the only one who takes the time to answer questions seriously. I am wondering if the people who post what appear to be serious questions are really serious at all? Some of these questions are very worrying, e.g., suicide, self harm, etc. You take the time to give these people all the good information you have, but they dont choose a best answer. which makes me believe they dont even read the answers, which in turn makes me wonder why I am bothering to answer "serious" questions at all. I have had some wonderful responses from people who I believe I have helped, as other serious answerers would have too, so I know there are very troubled people out there who need some help, but how do you work out the real questions from the bogus ones...any tips? Are there any known names that do these kind all the time. I just dont want to waste my time on the jokers.

I posted this in mental health because this is the area I am finding the most distressing questions.

and it has nothing to do with the points either, it has to do with putting so much effort into answering some of these really distressing questions

great answers so far, its good to hear from people who dont end up choosing a correct answer. But what about these suicide questions...some are so desperate, that you would think they would wait to get whatever answer that helps them. They posted the question...they want someone to talk them out of it.

Hi. It's so nice to see someone who is so concerned about giving good helpful answers on here. Once in awhile I had felt the same way...until I asked a question about a week ago and had every intention on choosing a best answer. I was unable to get online, and when you don't respond within a few days, Yahoo Answers will automatically put your question to voting. I was so disappointed because I wanted a certain person to know how much I appreciated their help with my question. However, what I did take out of it was the fact that when a question goes to in voting,...it doesnt' necessarily mean that the person didn't care. They could be someone just like me, who for whatever reason couldn't get online or neglected to get on soon enough. Hope this helps! Good question!

That's an interesting concern. I wouldn't take it that seriously. I wouldn't call everyone who doesn't choose a Best Answer a joker. A lot of them are probably people who aren't that into getting points on Yahoo! Answers but who were looking for an answer for their question at the time. These people read their answers and might not even know that they can vote for a best answer. Don't think your answers aren't going anywhere. I'm sure you're helping them.

You are very kind hearted. Thank you for the time you take to answer questions thoroughly. Have you ever gone to "Discover" and voted for best answer? I have and the trend seemed to be just choose the first answer because they just want points! They do not even read all the answers. It's all about their points. Just keep being sweet and helpful. Everyone should do the same!

I know when I get a lot of similar answers I leave it to the other users to vote for an answer......I have only done that once though!
