You are very blessed to find what works naturally for you. As with most physical illnesses, it is a matter of degree. I hope you never know a day when it's nearly impossible to recognize there's a mirror on the wall, write cogent words on a page, be in bright light without pain, or recognize the sunlight through a thick dulled haze. There is little to support shortened life for many anti-depressants, and most medical plans do provide coverage for them. Fearing potential future discrimination is no reason to continue suffering in agony. Major depression is not something anyone can think their way out of, and it is not a matter of bad attitude. It is a serious chemical imbalance. It should not be confused with ordinary situational blues.

Well, they thought I was depressed, but I was just recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Good for you that you can mentally pull yourself out, but my depression is 100% chemical/biological brain chemistry stuff, so that would be like telling a diabetic to read the Bible and they'll be all better. I'm a very religious person, but sometimes nothing the person can do will heal themselves. Sometimes medication is necessary, just like if I had a kidney problem or hypertension. Yes, good health practices are always good for treating anything, but simply assuming that someone is depressed and they can simply change their outlook and get better is not always the case. Good for you if your depression is the nature of such where that is possible, but for some people it isn't, and anti-depressants (and mood stabilizers) have saved many lives, just like insulin injections have helped many diabetics live longer, more fulfilling lives.

Yes, I do...me!

I wish it were that easy. I have been in hospitalized in a behavioral hospital, and I have even been in their day program for about 5 months. That was about 2.5 years ago, after I tried to kill myself.

I am still heavily medicated and see a therapist on a regular basis. I tried to eliminate one of my medications a while back and not only did my mood drop, but I also started getting extremely angry about every little thing and started having violent thoughts.

I don't know if you are familiar with it or not, but several years ago a movie came out by the name of "Seven" with Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt. I knew as soon as they started the opening credits with the music that my wife would not like it and I told her that she was not going to like it and asked her if she wanted to see something else. She declined and she ended up having nightmares, while it didn't phase me in one bit. She asked me why it didn't bother me and I told her it's hard for me to be bothered by something that tame when I have worse thoughts than that all the time.

It's great if you or someone else can just tell themselves not to be depressed.

However, I was seeing a Psychitrist and therapist around 10 years or so ago, and I thought that I was cured so I stopped going. Unfortunately, I was just avoiding the problem.

I hope you are not just avoiding the cause of your depression.

Alot of my patients that I see suffer from depression.
They can not function enough to read your words, or sit down and worry about life insurance.
You should feel blessed that you can come up with such a creative plan....
The people who suffer from depression are a varied group, and only when you have worked in an emergency room, and have seen everything, then you can start to understand...
