I've had similar thoughts in the past but I took a different angle on it.

What if that were the case, what difference would it make? Reality extends only so far as what you're aware is real. If your entire envelope of reality is a illusion, you wouldn't know and couldn't act differently.

Real, for most people, extends only as far as what you can see, feel, hear, touch and taste. If something fools all of your senses, it is real.

And that's the nature of the problem - if it genuinely fools you entirely, you have no method by which you can verify your existence. Everything is part of the same illusion, including any tests you might do to check.

In short, there are any number of alternative situations that could cause this type of reality we experience today. None can be proved or disproved so I suggest you just kick back, enjoy the ride and maybe have a beer to pass the time.

Delusions don't tend to be so complicated, or so lengthy.
And if I was going to be delusional, I think I'd create a more comfortable life.
