In Chiangmai city, go to the night bazaar for wonderful shopping and beside there is a food market with collection of restaurants and stalls.
Nearby:
Go and climb up the few hundred steps to the must see Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a beautiful temple and surroundings.
Another must visit is the San Kampheng Hot Springs. Soak in the therapeutic hot water, then buy the raw eggs (chicken or quail) in a small woven basket. The basket with eggs are soaked in the hot water according to the timing stated to get soft or hard boiled eggs. comes with sauce too. On way back you can stop by at the Umbrella Factory, Silver and Gems Factory.
If you have kids, they will love the elephant rides and monkey shows.
If you like culture, go visit the hill tribes near Chiang Rai.
Any if you are a nature lover with lots of time, go visit the Mt Ithanon Mountain in the Nature park.
With so much must go places, plan early and enjoy your trip.

There are so many beautiful things here in chiang mai. I would say that one must see would be Doi Inthanon and the temples built there for the king and queen, it is an amazing site to see and is about 2 hours from central chiang mai. most things that would be considered must see I think are just a little bit outside the city itself. You also would want to consider the elephant camp and the monkey show.

Also, look into the jungle trips into Chiang Rai just to the north...if that's your bag.

Go see the Mao hill tribes of you are near Chang Mai. You can see how they live and it is really cool. Chang Mai is one of my favorite places in the world, there is such a sense of peace there the rest of the world seems to fade into the background.
Chang Rai is OK, not much to see though.

I would go the other way see Phuket It's the most beautiful place on earth along with Ko Samoi and Suratani. I misspelled them but it's a must see!!!!!!!!!
