I remember long ago when everyone in the entire nation would stop and stay at home for a day. Off and on, we used to stop as a nation and simply, gracefully, quietly pause all at the same time. I wish your generation knew about that exquisite kind of universal calm when all the roar of machines and industry and generators and traffic fell silent all at once. It was good, those holiday moments of global, total peace and quiet.

If your place of employment is open Christmas Day, it might be a gesture of goodwill to other employees to work on Christmas; that way, when you want to take a day off to honor the garbage in which you *do* believe, then one of them might be willing to work in your place if you have been assigned to work that day.

Take off from what? School? Work? It all depends. If it's school, you don't have much of a choice, being that schools are closed that day. As for work, if you're getting the day off with pay, why knock it. If you get to work for extra pay, that's good too. It all depends on your priorities. If you don't have family or friends to spend the day with, might as well work, so you don't feel too lonely.

No. You should work so the rest of us can have the day off. Take a different day if it means nothing to you - people around you will appreciate the thoughtful gesture.

If you don't believe in it then earn some credit with your employer and work your regular day or some over time if you could use the pay.

Usually a company will shut down or pay double time. If you have a choice, make it because of what you want to do-either take the extra money or have the extra time.

I'm Christian but I wouldn't take a Jewish holiday off, it wouldn't be right. So I hope your attitude of cheating isn't the attitude of all atheists. Either you believe or you don't and if you don't --work your socks off...it's the right thing to do.

What garbage? If you don't believe in the true meaning of Christmas, why observe it?

Do you seriously need to ask strangers for their input before you take a day off...damn that is sad!
Maybe if you had God in your life you wouldn't have to be so dependent upon others to tell you what to do!
